Temporary binder

Acryhc modifiers for cement impact strength and adhesion to substrates are discussed in reference 211. Both water-soluble acryhc and acryhc emulsion polymers are used in the ceramic industry as temporary binders, deflocculants, and additive components in ceramic bodies and glazes (212) (see Ceramcs). [Pg.172]

PVA was used as a temporary binder owing to its water solubility, excellent binding strength and clean burning characteristics. To prepare the PVA solution, 4 g of PVA were added to 100ml distillated water. The mixture was heated and stirred vigorously until all the PVA was dissolved in the water. This took about half an hour. Peptisation was done by addition of 5 ml 1M HN03 to the solution. Finally, the solution was refluxed for 4 hours. The PVA solution was used in the preparation of the zirconia-alumina sol-gel solution. The preparation of the PVA solution can be summarised as follows ... [Pg.385]

Boil 4.0 ml distilled water in a test tube over the flame of a Bunsen burner. Add this to the starch paste, stirring well. This solution is a temporary binder. [Pg.110]

The granules have to be sufficiently strong to withstand charging into the die, but they have to be deformed under the forming pressure to produce a dense pressing. The strength can be controlled using temporary binders, e.g. paraffin emulsions, polyvinyl alcohol, methyl cellulose, etc. [Pg.126]

Acrylics have been nsed to impart impact strength and better substrate adhesion to cement (228). The ceramics indnstry uses both acrylic solution and emulsion pol5nners as temporary binders, deflocculants, and additives in ceramics bodies and glazes (229) (see Ceramics). [Pg.167]

Thick-film copper conductor inks are not pure copper. The ink consists of a functional material of copper, a solvent, a temporary binder, and a permanent binder. The permanent binder tailors the CTE to that of the substrate. It also aids in the adhesion of either the substrate or the dielectric. The thick-film firing process in nitrogen bums out the solvent and temporary binders. This leaves just the copper and the permanent binder. In addition to tailoring the CTE, the permanent binder significantly reduces both the electrical and thermal conductivities of the conductor. A typical fired conductor thickness is 15-18 pm. If it were pure copper, it would have a sheet resistivity of 0.94-1.13 mQ/Q. The 9924 thick-film copper conductor material from El DuPont Electronics specifies a sheet resistivity of 1.9-4.8 mD/ for the same thickness. This results in the published resistivity of this thick-film material being only 23% of the resistivity of pure copper. [Pg.345]

The smooth and complete decomposition of the PEGs is the reason behind their suitability as temporary binders for ceramic pressings. When burnt off in a muffle furnace, the PEGs bum with a bluish, fairly short, soot-free flame. In lubricating processes at high temperatures (e.g., in metal foundries), the pyrolytically decomposing PEG may lead to gas lubrication. [Pg.256]
