In order to assess the requirements for the further development of the retrieval software industry, members of the CADDY group examined the current use of CADDY in six European regulatory authorities early in 2000. The analysis found that overall there was significant interest in CADDY however, only evaluators in the larger authorities had actual experience with the software. Even though the current CADDY functionality was judged by the evaluators in the six countries to be sufficient for their immediate needs, further improvements were identified. [Pg.1084]

The last step is just as crucial as its predecessors. The system must be tested in the field, and the usual requirements in the software industry for maintenance and updates pertain. [Pg.8]

Unfortunately, a combination of poor quality control in the computer software industry, generally inadequate user... [Pg.172]

Often, the best examples of process efficiency can be found outside the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries. Other fields such as electronics, space, and software industries have evolved their documentation, training, quality, and change control systems to the point of best in class. These industries are more time sensitive to get product to market and have often evolved their processes to be efficient and decision processes to be very quick. Process owners may expand their knowledge by investigating other industries to find best practices and apply them internally. [Pg.267]

The IDC will provide unique scientific and technical training to personnel from State Parties. Upon returning to their country of origin, these personnel would be available to support national missions, e.g. earthquake and environmental monitoring, computer hardware and software industry, etc. [Pg.670]

In most cases, though, users aren t satisfied to only use the tools that are provided with Windows. Either a particular tool they need isn t included (for example, Microsoft didn t put a spreadsheet application into Windows), or they need a more sophisticated version of a particular application—Wordpad and Word 2000 are both word processors, but that s about where the similarity ends. This demand has led to a booming software industry, and there are literally thousands of applications available that users can install and use with Windows. Because of this, installing and maintaining programs on user s computers is a big part of a technician s job. In order to prepare you for this task, we will discuss the following topics in this chapter ... [Pg.630]

In the beginning of the CRC project, we held numerous discussion and interview sessions with end-users and experts from the chemical and software industries in order to learn about the particularities of their work processes, to develop realistic use cases, and to specify requirements for novel software support. [Pg.643]

The major scientific objectives of IMPROVE in the area of software engineering, though timely and relevant from a technological point of view, were, however, not always in line with the current business objectives and the technological road maps of the software industries. Furthermore, research in IMPROVE resulted in software prototypes to illustrate the advanced functionality and to demonstrate the proof-of-concept. This software has not been designed to be directly integrated in the software product portfolio of any vendor. [Pg.766]

In the following subsection, we will give a few concrete examples of how the results have impacted the developments in the process engineering software industries. [Pg.766]

The objective of IMPROVE to develop an integrated process and product model, spanning the application domain, tool functionalities and software platforms with both a product data as well as an engineering workflow perspective, has been by far too visionary and forward-looking to get the chance of being picked up in the short-term by the software industries. [Pg.766]

In conclusion, the software industry does not yet seem to be ready to absorb the more involved modeling concepts and software technologies like those brought forward in the IMPROVE project. [Pg.767]

In parallel with these industrywide quality improvement efforts, the software industry had recognized the need to identify processes and standards that assured the quality of commercial software. ANSI (6) and IEEE (7) have been issuing practice standards and dehnitions for many years in an effort to unify quality assurance methodology in the software development industry. Furthermore, the software industry recognized early on that establishment of quality principles prior to the initiation of a development effort reduced the cost of repairing faulty software later in the process (8). [Pg.55]

In ancient times the molds for the production of bells were referred to as templates . These templates imposed their structure on the material, which was to be processed. In the same way other templates are used today to shape a workpiece. Not only in the shaping of materials but also in the formatting of information, e.g. in the software industry, templates play an important role. [Pg.46]

It is unfortunate that many a safety case is constructed before product launch only for it to be filed away in the annals of history after go-live. The safety case is a key document for the lifetime of the product but its content shouldn t be static. There is much to be learnt from operating a system in a live environment and the world changes in ways that could impact the validity of the arguments set out in the safety case. It is the nature of the software industry that products evolve, new functionality is introduced and old methods are deprecated. Clinical processes change too and in a short space of time there can be extensive divergence between the original safely case and the product as it stands today. [Pg.287]

Prasinos s research interests include health databases, health informatics, data mining, machine learning, and decision-support systems. Beyond research, Prasinos has worked in the software industry as a consultant and software engineer for more than two years. [Pg.702]

The software industry contains many smaller but important companies. Symantec produces some important security software. Adobe Systems has a large... [Pg.1663]

The Indian software industry has to come out of the cozy cost arbitrage-based outsourcing model and move to models based on innovation and entrepreneurship— developing novel solutions to problem. It offers three benefits over outsourcing. First, the revenue can grow in a nonlinear way. Next, it can be applied to the complex problems faced by the nation. Finally, self-reliance can help isolate national economy from international events. [Pg.150]

Further, based on our experience in global software industry, we strongly perceive need of developing team skills in today s graduates. Further, we have to move away from the earlier hierarchical or hero -based teams to optimizing teams that contribute equitably. [Pg.152]
