Site visitor procedures

A formal site visitor procedure must be in place to meet the requirements of the health and safety regulations and to maintain site security. 

The site visitor procedure must meet the needs of the building project. For example, a high-profile building project, one which pushes the architectural boundaries such as the new Wembley Football Stadium in London, would have attracted many more visitors during its construction period than, say, a food distribution warehouse for a supermarket. 

The site visitor procedure is only required to be fit for purpose , but whatever system is put in place, here are some suggestions for consideration ... 

Physical access controls (limited access) (all listed implementation features must be present) This area is related to the procedures for limiting physical access to an entity while ensuring that properly authorized access is allowed. Disaster recovery Emergency operating mode Equipment control (into and out of site) Facility security plan Procedures for verifying access authorizations prior to physical access Maintenance records Need-to-know procedures for personnel access Sign-in for visitors and their escorts, if appropriate Testing and revision... 

A job safety assessment or analysis should be performed at the start of any task or operation. The designated competent or authorized person should evaluate the task or operation to identify potential hazards and determine the necessary controls. This assessment should focus on actual worksite conditions or procedures that differ from or were not anticipated in the related project or phase hazard analysis. In addition, the authorized person should ensure that each employee involved in the task or operation is aware of the hazards related to the task or operation and of the measures or procedures that workers and visitors must use to protect themselves. Note The job safety assessment is not intended to be a formal, documented analysis, but instead is more of a quick check of actual site conditions and a review of planned procedures and precautions. A more detailed explanation of job safety analysis is provided in Chapter 12. 

Are there documented procedures for regulating the activities of contractors, visitors and other persons working on the site ... 

We will include procedures to account for visitors, contract employees, and service employees such as cafeteria employees. At sites where weather or earthquake emergencies are reasonable possibihties, additional special instruction and drilling will be given.
