Building projects

In other cases, where perhaps the requirements are ill defined, or there is concern over some particular aspect of the project, it may well be more appropriate to have the project designed and/or managed by independent professionals. For example, most industrial building projects are best suited to an engineer-led approach. If, however, the owner is particularly concerned about the architectural aspects of the scheme, he may prefer to make his own selection and appointment of an architect. 

On some contracts, mainly connected with general building projects, rather than specifically plant and machinery, a quantity surveyor is appointed to draw up a schedule of items which require pricing, and which the total is the bid figure. 

Delivery schedules must also be considered. Monolithic sheets are generally cut to exact size at the factory. Depending on the laboratory s location, delivery may be slow or occasionally go wrong altogether. Half of the tops destined for a new laboratory in California went to Alaska, while the Alaska tops ended up in California. This caused serious delays in two building projects. 

There are recent building projects in Canada that generally confirm the simulation results presented. Cost-effectiveness of some of these buildings is even greater than the simulated results due to savings in areas not modeled. 

When we build a house, we only require a certain number of building materials say, bricks, tubes and window panes. The quantity surveyor in charge of the building project decides which materials are needed, and writes a quantity beside each on his order form 10000 bricks, 20 window panes, etc. Similarly, when we have a velocity, we have the units of m and s-1 , and then quantify it, saying something like, The man ran fast, covering a distance of 10 metres per second . By this means, any parameter is defined both qualitatively (in terms of its units) and quantitatively (in terms of a number). With symbols, we would write v = 10 ms-1. 

The ancient civilizations all over the globe used to carry out prodigious mining, quarrying and building projects by the use of forced human labor. The following examples are available in the literature in this regard.

EPS foam slabs are used for the insulation of walls, roofs, floors and ceilings. Particle sizes between 0.9 and 1.6 mm are preferably used for this application. 

Stainless steels appear in every facet of our lives, from consumer goods (especially in the kitchen, where cleanliness and corrosion-resistance are essential) to industrial storage tanks, chemical plant components, vehicle parts including exhaust pipes and catalytic converters (see Section 26.6), and a wide range of industrial corrosion-resistant components. Building projects also make wide use of stainless steels, both in construction and in external decorative parts.
