Biofixation of C02 by microalgae, especially as an option for the utilisation of flue gases from power plants, has been the subject of extensive investigations in the United States, Japan and Europe (IEA-GHG Biofixation Network). However, none of the related projects have demonstrated the feasibility of the concept at a pre-industrial level. What is more, C02 fixation efficiency is quite low because of the photobioreactors used in those pilot plants (raceway or open-ponds) (Figure 17). 

For agriculture and environment related projects, the <2-mm soil fraction is routinely analyzed and used as a standard, whereas for mineral exploration the <63-pm fraction is used. The latter better reflects bio-accessibility and both fractions are analyzed using different chemical digestions.

Validation guidelines must comply with all formal procedural controls established by the company/organization. They are internal documents providing detailed procedures, activities and sample products necessary to successfully execute a computer systems or related project.

The author discussed the matter of research support in these areas two decades ago the type and amount of financial support does not appear to have changed much since that time (66). Fundamental research on the preservation of food is supported to only a limited degree by research grants. Most of the high quality research has been indirectly supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, frequently on disease-related projects. Hundreds of physics conferences have been held since World War II, but with little doubt, the most influential conference of them all occurred on June 2, 3, and 4, 1947 on Shelter Island at the eastern end of Long Island. This conference occurred soon after physicists had returned firom their wartime work designing the atomic bomb in Los Alamos, developing radar systems at MIT, or on other war-related projects in laboratories located around the country. Most of the physicists had returned to their prewar faculty positions and were looking ahead. It was an auspicious time for a conference.
