Of course there are many planning solutions offered by vendors of MES or APS (advanced planning systems) (see for example S tad tier and Kilger [8]). The great advantage of a simulation based solution is the almost unlimited flexibility... [Pg.31]

After a simulation-based design of an efficient pipeless plant had been performed, the existing standard multipurpose plant was modelled by a reference model and compared to the pipeless plant setup by determining the overall production time for different production plans. [Pg.48]

These simple examples can only show the opportunity to further extend the value chain planning model usage for decision support integrated in simulation-based optimization architecture. There is an opportunity for further industry-oriented research to better understand production-price dynamics in different types of value chain networks. [Pg.253]

In general, these criteria often hold for planning problems with a rather long planning horizon. Therefore, simulation-based models are prevalent especially for SC configuration problems. Special classes of simulation techniques are distinguished. [Pg.129]

At the tactical level, however, more simulation-based approaches can be found. Table 4.1 shows a classification of literature for integrated SC configuration and operations planning where 7 out of 20 reviewed articles propose simulation-based approaches. [Pg.131]

A framework for simulation-based integrated planning of supply chains in chemical industry... [Pg.150]

Prom the review of literature it can be concluded that simulation-based approaches establish an opportunity to tackle integrated planning problems when analytic optimization is not able to properly reflect all aspects of the considered problem. However, finding an optimal solution for an integrated planning problem by means of a simulation model is more complicated compared to analytic optimization approaches. This is because the development of a simulation model is a complex multi-step process. Figure 4.6 shows a simple sketch of the steps in a simulation study. [Pg.150]

The reservoir simulation studies associated with assessing a potential polymer flood are very important, and many of the issues that can be investigated and clarified by simulation are discussed in Chapter 8. In planning a polymer pilot using simulation, it is not necessary to wait for the actual laboratory data to be produced for the case under study. Much of the scoping study can be carried out before the laboratory work is complete since simulations based on different cases can be made, for example, low and high adsorption limits. Indeed, the simulations help to specify what acceptable values of the various parameters can be, e.g. how large adsorption may be, and, in other... [Pg.332]

The type of development, type and number of development wells, recovery factor and production profile are all inter-linked. Their dependency may be estimated using the above approach, but lends itself to the techniques of reservoir simulation introduced in Section 8.4. There is never an obvious single development plan for a field, and the optimum plan also involves the cost of the surface facilities required. The decision as to which development plan is the best is usually based on the economic criterion of profitability. Figure 9.1 represents a series of calculations, aimed at determining the optimum development plan (the one with the highest net present value, as defined in Section 13). [Pg.214]

The reservoir model will usually be a computer based simulation model, such as the 3D model described in Section 8. As production continues, the monitoring programme generates a data base containing information on the performance of the field. The reservoir model is used to check whether the initial assumptions and description of the reservoir were correct. Where inconsistencies between the predicted and observed behaviour occur, the model is reviewed and adjusted until a new match (a so-called history match ) is achieved. The updated model is then used to predict future performance of the field, and as such is a very useful tool for generating production forecasts. In addition, the model is used to predict the outcome of alternative future development plans. The criterion used for selection is typically profitability (or any other stated objective of the operating company). [Pg.333]
