Signs and Symptoms VHFs are febrile illnesses which can be complicated by easy bleeding, petechiae (minute hemorrhagic spots, of pinpoint to pinhead size, in the skin, which are not blanched by pressure), hypotension and even shock, flushing of the face and chest, and edema (an accumulation of an excessive amount of watery fluid in cells, tissues, or serous cavities).
