Selection and Assembly

If you purchase a mill, and it s not assembled, inspect the components against the parts list and drawings supplied by the manufacturer before you do anything else. Then lay out the components in the approximate order of assembly, checking each for twist, bend or warp. Correct any defects you find, and if a component is beyond repair, have it replaced. 

When the mill is assembled, double-check to be sure you ve followed all procedures properly before taking the mill into the field. Remember, precision in the shop is vital to productive and enjoyable work in the field- 

Return the bar to its working position, readjust chain tension and secure the bar clamping nuts. Mark the tip of the bar at a point that will allow space between the bar and the nose guard or helper handle. The two vertical lines in the photograph (I) mark the maximum limits for mounting the mill on this bar. 

Before mounting, set the height of the mill to 3 in. on both riser posts. Then mount the mill 

With all components in proper position, the mill aligned, and all nuts and bolts torqued, the standard mill is ready logo. But first let s have a look at a few other things you might want to do.

The proper selection and assembly of components in a pressure system are critical safety factors. The curve display unit (Fig. 15) supersedes the conventional recording instrument. All the analog measured variables connected to the process computer and the calculated characteristic values can be represented (to various scales) on this display unit. Modern units of this kind can simultaneously show up to seven curves (graphs) in different colours. Besides, several curves can be selected and assembled into a combined display. Records of past events can likewise be shown on the video screen for "post mortem" verification. The equipment supplied by some manufacturers moreover enables the flow chart sections to be shown with superimposed curves on one and the same display unit. Other causes can also be the wear in nozzles. Here, the annular gap must be adjusted or the locking mechanism should be renewed.
