William Eugene Parham, Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors and of the Advisory Board of Organic Syntheses, died May 21, 1976 of a coronary occlusion near his summer home on Deer Lake, near Deer River, Minnesota, at the age of 53. Dr. Parham joined the Board of Editors on September 7, 1958 and served as Editor-in-Chief of Volume 44 of Organic Syntheses in 1964. He became a member of the Advisory Board and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1966, and served as Vice President from 1969 to 1974, at. which time he succeeded Richard S. Schreiber as Treasurer. As Treasurer, Dr. Parham was very effective in securing competent legal counsel for Organic Syntheses and in clarifying its foundation tax status with the Internal Revenue Service. [Pg.151]

While the threat of potential terrorist acts is a primaiy driver of recent security initiatives, secondaiy drivers that encourage firms to develop security competencies also exist. The Aberdeen Research Group (2004) reported four key drivers of security initiatives brand equity protection prevention of brand piracy, gray market activity, and product counterfeiting customer and trading partner requirements and increased product safety and traceability concerns due to greater outsourcing activity. [Pg.295]

These security competencies culminate in improved overall supply chain security as presented in Fig. 18.1. Based on the literature review conducted as part of this research as well as the results of the in-depth interviews, it is clear that some firms are more advanced in their security efforts than others. There is a continuum of security initiatives and preparedness. As discussed by Rice and Caniato (2003), security competencies exist at four levels (1) basic - where fundamental security and preparedness activities exist (2) reactive - where a greater awareness exists with respect to security vulnerabilities (3) proactive -where security and resilience practices beyond the norm are adopted and (4) advanced - where a firm exists as a leader in progressive secnrity initiatives and creates a highly resilient supply chain. Given that security is an emerging field, it is not surprising that Rice and Caniato (2003) report few companies have reached the advanced level. [Pg.301]

The future for amino resins and plastics seems secure because they can provide quaHties that are not easily obtained in other ways. New developments will probably be in the areas of more highly specialized materials for treating textiles, paper, etc, and for use with other resins in the formulation of surface coatings, where a small amount of an amino resin can significantly increase the value of a more basic material. Additionally, since amino resins contain a large proportion of nitrogen, a widely abundant element, they may be in a better position to compete with other plastics as raw materials based on carbon compounds become more costly. [Pg.321]

Administrative competence and scientific merit made Yngve the choice for chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Florida in 1977. He served two terms and stepped down in 1983. The six years that Ohm was busy in the chair of the department resulted in substantial changes. An endowment was secured to bring Alan Katritsky to Gainesville and two senior theoreticians. Rod Bartlett and Mike Zemer, were convinced to join the faculty. According to the surveys... [Pg.11]

To measure the dissociation rate constant, all that is necessary, in principle, is first to secure a satisfactory occupancy of the receptors by the radioligand and then to prevent further association, either by adding a competing agent in sufficient concentration or by lowering [L] substantially by... [Pg.160]

Many U.S. companies are supporting the implementation of hydrogen. They can compete effectively on an international basis and build a real economic force. A key part of our security is to build equipment that can be exported to our allies. Our industrial base can then enjoy access to world markets. [Pg.125]

Warrants are documents giving authority to a person to do something, which he otherwise has, no right to do and this secures him from loss or damage. A precept or writ issued by a competent officer or magistrate authorizing an officer to make an... [Pg.248]

Experienced senior staff of the sponsor must always visit the investigator site before a new clinical trial starts, even if the investigator has been involved in previous studies. Most pharmaceutical companies have checklists and SOPs of the requirements of an investigator site. Key questions will need to be answered relating to staff support and the present workload of the site. The competence of the staff to conduct any procedures, the maintenance, calibration and QC of any equipment to be used, and whether other clinical trials demand too much resource are aU questions that need answers. In addition, the facilities should be inspected to establish whether the site could store and securely archive the large amounts of documents and study drugs that will be present. The pharmacy may play a major role in the study and therefore the facility and the pharmacist should be visited. [Pg.253]

Phase 4, which could begin around 2025, is the Fully Developed Market and Infrastructure Phase. In this phase, consumer requirements will be met or exceeded, national benefits in terms of energy security and improved environmental quality will be achieved, and industry will receive adequate return on investment and compete globally. Phase 4 provides the transition to a full hydrogen economy by 2040. [Pg.99]
