Sandwich cores pipes

The primary structural role of the face/core interface in sandwich construction is to transfer transverse shear stresses between faces and core. This condition stabilizes the faces against rupture or buckling away ftom the core. It also carries loads normally applied to the panel surface. They resist transverse shear and normal compressive and tensile stress resultants. For the most part, the faces and core that contain all plastics can be connected during a wet lay-up molding or, thereafter, by adhesive bonding. In some special cases, such as in a truss-core pipe. [Pg.738]

Pipe can be coextruded with more than one layer, which results in a composite sandwich wall. Figure 10.4 shows a multimanifold die for extruding PVC or ABS pipe with three layers where the intermediate layer is a foam core. This results in a saving of weight the foam core pipe is 75-80% of the weight of solid pipe. Such pipe is used in city sewer applications. The ASTM standards for foam core pipe are F-268 for ABS and F891 for PVC. [Pg.224]

When thicker wall thickness can be used low density foam core products are produced such as in pipe and paneling. This multilayer sandwich structure provides reduced material costs without sacrificing performance, in fact properties can be improved by using the sandwich design advantages.1... [Pg.155]

However, recently a biodegradable irrigation pipe formed from a renewable material has been described (7). The biodegradable irrigation pipe is formed having a pipe wall with a plurality of layers. The layers may be fabricated from a core layer sandwiched between inner and outer protective layers. [Pg.283]

The manufacture of wire made from p-BN is performed by the following steps A powdery mixture containing 13 vol% p-BN and 87 vol% Ni is sandwiched between a steel core and a steel pipe. The assembly is sealed at the ends, heated to 1050°C for two hours, extruded repeatedly, heat treated, and cold drawn to obtain a wire. The wire is then pickled in 15% aqueous HCl for 15 min to obtain the clean product [5]. [Pg.58]

There is some thermoplastic pipe made of a cellular-core construction (for example, ASTM F 628) in which the pipe wall consists of thin inner and outer solid skins sandwiching... [Pg.745]

Rigid foams can be processed as continuous panels or by lamination between two surfacing materials (sandwich panels with a rigid polyurethane foam core). Composite sandwich panels may have particleboard or plasterboard on one surface and cement on the other. Foams can also be produced to fill cavities between metal sheets or sheets of reinforced plastics or in combination on either side. These structures are used as thermal insulation for refrigerator and freezer cabinets, refrigerated transportation vehicles, water heaters, pipes, pipe shells, tanks for gas storage or transport of liquified natural gas, and so on. [Pg.233]

Show that the little increase in hoop stress is a sandwich pipe with a foam core as shown in Figure 10.5. Assume that the thickness of the foam core H is equal to the thickness of each pipe layer T/2. Additionally, assume that/(( =10(r/2). [Pg.242]
