Due to wide variations in the manner in which corporations report benefits to the U.S. Government s regulatory bodies, not all plans will have been uncovered or correctly evaluated during our effort to research this data. Also, the availability to employees of such plans will vary according to the qualifications that employees must meet to become eligible. For example, some benefit plans may be available only to salaried workers—others only to employees who work more than 1,000 hours yearly. Benefits that are available to employees of the main or parent company may not be available to employees of the subsidiaries. In addition, employers frequently alter the nature and terms of plans offered. [Pg.33]

World War I precipitated the transformation of Du Pont from a single to a multisectored enterprise. The company swiftly built new facilities for the production of propellants (smokeless powder) and military explosives, first for the Allies and then for the U.S. military forces. Production rose from 8.4 million pounds of propellants in 1914 to 455 million pounds in April 1917. Standardized mortality ratio (SMR) in the subgroup was 328 (5 observed/1.52 expected deaths, 95% confidence interval [Cl] 33-61, p value not reported). Kimbrough et al. Neither of these studies reported adequate quantitative exposure data. The inconsistent results of these studies could be due to differences in exposure levels, durations, and latencies, as well as types of Aroclors and cohort sizes. The divers who were involved in the construction of these docks and breakers got 540 per day. Since they could only work during slack water, a diver might only be submerged for an hour or two a day, and when he was down there must be another diver above water.
