Safety DVDs

Many organizations show specific safety DVDs to remind employees of past accidents in an effort to raise awareness. The showing of a film, and relating it to, either a near miss incident, or accident recall, is a good idea. Safety DVDs often have high risk acts or high risk conditions portrayed and these scenes could act as reminders and prompts for the accident or near miss incident recall session. 

A safety DVD should always be introduced and a brief sununary of the film given before its viewing. After the viewing, it is essaitial to sununarize the contents of the film and to ask questions of the audience to determine the level of understanding of the message. At this time, near miss incident recall can be used. The various near miss incidents recalled or accidoits recalled from the past that get discussed should be noted.

I recommend obtaining and using this video to instill a sense of safety eirltirre. Website listings for the Spiral to Disaster DVD show prices ranging from about 300 to about 500. 

The work of the ICSBEP is documented as the International Handbook of Evaluated Criticality Safety Benchmark Experiments, which is distributed by INL as a set of annually updated CD or DVDs. The handbook currently contains 464 evaluations covering more than 4000 critical, near-critical, or subcritical configurations. Table 21.6 gives an overview of the experiments available from the database.
