They are manufactured in small standard lengths, say, 1.8-2,. I m, and are then joined together at site to fit into the layout. 

To take up the vertical dynamic load of busbars and to prevent them from sliding down, two sets of thrust pads are generally provided on the busbars in each standard length of the rising mains, as illustrated in Figure 28.3(a).

The other types of tops are fabricated locally, although the specified material may not be available locally. There are also tops sold in standard lengths and cut to size on location. It takes considerable skill to make smooth joints in such tops. 

A length of yam which has been wound on a reel also the standard length of yam (which varies with different textiles) used in calculating yam counts. 

Yam count or number defines the relationship between yam weight and length. On one system it is the number of times a standard length of the yam is contained in 1 lb weight, e.g., a 23s cotton yam is one of such a thickness that 23 hanks each 840 yards long weigh 1 lb. On this scale, the thickness of the stationary phase can hardly be seen. The standard length is approximately 30 m. However, for analyses of high molecular weight materials or for screening purposes, the length is 15 m.

Use standard lengths (25 to 30 m). To avoid overloading the column, the capacity can be increased by using a thicker film thickness and a wider diameter. This will not alter the separation efficiency. Occasionally, very short columns (2 m) give better results. 

A 8] The separation layer consists of platinum coated on a silicon substrate. Owing to the low heat capacity, quick temperature cycles can be executed and a resolution down to 7 ppm can be achieved with the integrated thermal conductivity detector. The standard length of the capillary is 860 mm with a channel width of 60 pm. A measurement cycle takes less than 60 s. 

A sample cell—normally parallelepiped in shape with a standard length of 1 cm and made of glass for the VIS region or quartz (or fused silica) for the UV region. The cell has an opening for inserting the sample and a stopper to prevent evaporation. 

The chosen tube length should be your plant s practice or standard length and should consider the plot land area needed to pull and service the bundle in maintenance turnarounds. 

The time course of the observed rate, dn/dt, for a typical run is shown in Fig. 4. Experiments with longer runs showed that after about 3000 sec. dn/dt became essentially constant. Consequently, the standard length of run was chosen to be between 3,000 and 4,000 sec.
