To gain the necessary knowledge themselves the safety specialists participate in external trainings (in the USA and Great Britain) and safety conferences and are members of relevant societies (e.g. the International System Safety Society and the Safety-Critical Systems Club) as there are not many possibilities for a complete safety education in central Europe yet. An additional goal of these activities is the early recognition of new or revised legal requirements.

The Safety-Critical Systems Club exists to raise awareness of safety issues in the field of safety-critical systems and to facilitate the transfer of safety technology from wherever it exists. It is an independent, non-profit organisation that co-operates with all bodies involved with safety-critical systems. 

The Safety-critical Systems Symposium, organised by the Safety-Critical Systems Club, provides a forum for inter-disciplinary technology transfer. Because it does so in a club atmosphere rather than a commercial environment, problems are more readily admitted to and lessons more openly communicated. We thank Joan Atkinson for the logistical organisation that makes this possible.

Activity by the professional bodies most closely associated with the software industry was supplemented by the establishment, in 1991, of a Safety-Critical Systems Club... 

The Safety-Critical Systems Club exists for the benefit of industrialists and researchers involved with computer systems in safety-critical applications. Sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry and the ience and Engineering Research Council, its purpose is to increase awareness and facilitate communication in the safety-critical systems domain.
