The Agena Upper Stage Rocket launched in 1959 began using a screened start basket in 1964 (DiFrancesco and Boorady, 1989). The motivation for the incorporation of the basket was the desire to perform multiple restarts of the engine (DeBrock et al., 1971). The Agena design featured a screened cone at the top of the sump that protruded into the bottom of the tank to allow for both refill of the sump and the preservation of gas free flow to the tank outlet. [Pg.37]
