Ripple effect

Hardly a raw material used by the chemical industry has been unaffected by the continuing ripple effect of on-and-off inflation. Raw material prices have not risen evenly. Shifts in relative prices of competing materials continue to occur. Healing with these shifts is a significant challenge to market research and chemical buyer personnel. It must be stressed that a total view of prices, availabiUty, and competing demands is now required and developments must be constandy monitored. 

There is a grave transportation risk in relying on just-in-time production methods. Any freight transportation system breakdown can be catastrophic for companies and nations. If key parts get stuck at the border, or if a natural disaster destroys a highway or a rail line, some factories might have to close down, others write off permanent losses. And if it is a component for an essential product or service, the ripple effect could cost the economy billions of dollars.

However, the ultimate reason is perhaps rooted in the Toxics Substances Control Act (TSCA). Sometimes it s as close to home as your employees or your investors, and other times it can affect someone halfway around the world. Without consciousness, we are without a soul. Consciousness in business is more easily injected into small- to medium-sized corporations, where the effects can be almost immediate. In bigger businesses, the ripple effect can be so slow as to seem nonexistent and so most of us would lose hope and the energy to continue, but it can be done.
