The remarkable results of experiments have drawn attention to the need for the development of theory, which has now been extensive, as discussed in section 11.5. Indeed, the value of such unexpected [Pg.357]

We were willing to pursue the conformation of most unusual observations. We did this with clear eyes and a constant awareness of the possibility of artifact. In the end, the results vindicated the use of data which some may have considered questionable and which were certainly contrary to expectation of all prior experiments and theory. In classical mechanics It Is assumed that at each Instant of time a particle is at a definite position x. Review of experiments, however, reveals that each of many measurements of position of Identical particles in identical conditions does not yield the same result.
