Resume paper

When you visit an office-supply store or print shop to purchase resume paper, you will be surprised at how many different shades of white there are. You will also find paper stocks in several different weights and textures, some containing watermarks, and most will have at least some cotton content. 

For traditional printed resumes, it s also acceptable to use a slate or light gray paper. Avoid using bright-colored or dark-colored papers, however, which will cause your resume to stand out for the wrong reasons. As for the weight of the paper, 24- or 28-pound bond paper works fine. One way to help your resume stand out is to use a heavier paper stock. Expect to pay between. 15 and 1.00 per sheet for quality resume paper unless you buy a box of 50-500 sheets at an office-supply store. 

When choosing resume paper, make sure you see and feel a sample of the paper stock prior to purchasing a sealed package of that paper. Finally, when printing your resumes and cover letters on a laser or high-quality ink-jet printer, make sure the paper you choose was designed for this equipment. 

Instead of racing to your local office-supply superstore and grabbing the first package of paper you find suitable for your resume, shop around a bit. Visit a local print shop or copy shop and look at all of the different types of available paper. As long as you select a resume paper that conveys a professional image, the actual paper you choose is a matter of personal preference. 

At the top of your letter, list your full name, address, and phone number. If you have personalized stationery to match your resume paper, use it. Your contact information should be followed by the recipient s address and the date (using a standard business letter format). Next comes the salutation, the opening paragraph, your marketing message, one or two support paragraphs, your formal request for an interview, and finally some type of closure. Because your cover letter is so important, let s look at each of these sections in more detail. 

When your resume is in an electronic file, it can be e-mailed to an employer, posted on a website, added to an online database, and imported into applicant-tracking software used by potential employers. Although you won t have to deal with issues like choosing resume paper, picking the perfect font or ink color, or formatting your resume to look perfect on the printed page, there are other issues to contend with when creating an electronic resume. If you created your printed resume on a PC, you already have an electronic file with which to work. If you had someone prepare your printed resume and don t have access to or can t use the electronic file, you will have to create your electronic resume from scratch. 

Once you choose your resume paper, select an ink color. Avoid wild colors and mixing multiple colors. Black ink is the most popular and most traditional color. If you choose to print your resume using an alternate color ink, make sure your selection is professional looking. Brown or burgundy are good alternatives. Make sure the ink color and the paper you choose don t clash. Also, make sure the text is easily readable both to the human eye and to computer scanners. If faxing your resume to employers, your paper and ink color selections should be white paper with black ink. If your resume is difficult to read, people won t read it. 

If possible, match the stationery or note card you use to your cover letter and resume paper. This helps you convey a uniform and well-thought-out image. 

Choose a high-quality resume paper in a neutral color like white, off-white, or pale gray. Avoid textured or brightly colored paper. Make sure to buy matching envelopes. 

You do not have to include your references on the resume itself. Instead, type a separate list of at least three references and provide all relevant contact information. Print this list on quality resume paper and if you re submitting a hard copy of your resume to an employer, make sure you use the same type of paper for both documents. 

Phenolsulphonephthalein (phenol red). Mix 10 g. of o-sulpho-benzoic anhydride (Section VIII,9), 14 g. of pure phenol and 10 g. of freshly fused zinc chloride in a small conical flask. Place a glass rod in the flask and heat gently over a flame to melt the phenol. Then heat the flask containing the well-stirred mixture in an oil bath at 135-140° for 4 hours. Stir from time to time, but more frequently during the first hour if the mixture froths unduly, remove the flask from the bath, cool and then resume the heating. When the reaction is complete, add 50 ml. of water, allow the water to boil and stir to disintegrate the product. Filter the crude dye with suction and wash it well with hot water. Dissolve the residue in the minimum volume of warm (60°) 20 per cent, sodium hydroxide solution, filter, and just acidify the filtrate with warm dilute hydrochloric acid (1 1). Filter the warm solution, wash with water, and dry upon filter paper. The yield of phenol red (a brilliant red powder) is 11 g. 

All these polyesters are produced by bacteria in some stressed conditions in which they are deprived of some essential component for thek normal metabohc processes. Under normal conditions of balanced growth the bacteria utilizes any substrate for energy and growth, whereas under stressed conditions bacteria utilize any suitable substrate to produce polyesters as reserve material. When the bacteria can no longer subsist on the organic substrate as a result of depletion, they consume the reserve for energy and food for survival or upon removal of the stress, the reserve is consumed and normal activities resumed. This cycle is utilized to produce the polymers which are harvested at maximum cell yield. This process has been treated in more detail in a paper (71) on the mechanism of biosynthesis of poly(hydroxyaIkanoate)s. 

This theme is resumed in several later papers in this volume. 

In cases where a lot of proplnt has successfully passed the one-year exposure to methyl violet paper, only a 3% inspection of the exposed test strips need to be made thereafter until such inspection indicates progressive deterioration of the proplnt or other nonstandard condition, at which time 100% inspection and test of the lot under suspicion will be resumed It is considered desirable that succeeding annual inspections include at least 1/3 of the containers included in the original 3% inspection as outlined above. In this manner, such containers may be considered as a basic comparative control with reference to the balance of the lot under test...

References, if you have space, list the foil name, title, address, and telephone number of two to four people who have agreed to be a reference for you. Make sure the people you list have agreed in advance and are aware that you are using their names in your resume. If space on your resume is limited, it s acceptable to simply write References available upon request. You can also provide references on a separate sheet of paper or on the company s application form.

Use the same font and paper for your cover letter and your resume. 12 point Times New Roman is a good choice of font. Heavy-weight white or ivory paper is a good choice of paper.
