I d like to see more people becoming active writing letters, because I think that does help. I sent forty copies of my book to famous people—legislators, senators, celebrities, media people. In my cover letter I focused on the Gulf War Syndrome, which many of us see as a variation of EI/MCS.

You ll find that all the howto books for getting your book published insist that you send a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with each submission. This piece of advice always amused me. Why bother If an editor likes your submission, do you think he or she will care about an SASE And if the editor wants to reject it, I don t really need to hear about it. In my cover letters, I tell the publishers they may discard the submission if uninterested. I always send submissions to several publishers simultaneously, unless a publisher has contacted me first about a specific book idea. 

Be honest. Don t put forth claims you can t back up. Don t make up stuff that s not true. Don t exaggerate. When you do these things, you lose your credibility whether you re writing a persuasive essay or a cover letter for a job.

Summary. Some resumes include a summary, but in most cases this is not needed and takes up valuable space that could be better used in another category.
