Fat in a sealed package which is half filled has been shown to become rancid in a shorter time than fat in a full package (6). This is due to the presence of a smaller amount of air in the full package. 

When choosing resume paper, make sure you see and feel a sample of the paper stock prior to purchasing a sealed package of that paper. Finally, when printing your resumes and cover letters on a laser or high-quality ink-jet printer, make sure the paper you choose was designed for this equipment. 

Another important packaging development area is plastic. Various plastics have been and continue to be used high- and low-density polyethylene (HDPE, LDPE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS) and various barrier plastics. These can be formed into bottles of conventional shape or fed into machines producing form-fill-seal packages, typically cups.

Calcium carbonate is not an acceptable texturiser in products where there is an acid component to the flavour - obviously, the calcium carbonate reacts with the acid to produce carbon dioxide. Typically, acids are only used in fruit-flavoured products, and here, talc must be used as a texturiser. If, by accident, calcium carbonate is used the carbon dioxide generated could blow up a sealed package causing the packaging to fail. The acid flavour is also lost through the acid-carbonate reaction. 

Which technique to use generally depends on the desired reliability during end-use operation. Certain military applications, for example, will demand expensive hermetically sealed packages, whereas an inexpensive calculator may make do with a simple glob of encapsulant on top of the chip. 

Fructose is hygroscopic and absorbs significant amounts of moisture at relative humidities greater than 60%. Goods stored in the original sealed packaging at temperatures below 25°C and a relative humidity of less than 60% can be expected to retain stability for at least 12 months. 

From previous accelerated and real time ageing studies, it is known that rubber compounds exhibit complex property changes over time (1,2). Oftentimes, this can lead to less than desirable characteristics in the rubber, such as increased stiffness, embrittlement, poor abrasion characteristics, and others. In thin latex rubber products, it is common practice to under cure the rubber. As the product ages, certain properties will tend to improve for a while before starting a decline. For example, latex rubber condoms are stored in hermetically sealed packages, which limit exposure to oxygen, ozone and UV therefore, their ageing characteristics are more predictable and less pronounced than tires or footwear outsoles, since they can establish a three to five year shelf-life (3).
