A leuco dye(s) solution in a nonvolatile solvent is encapsulated in microcapsules 5-10 pm in diameter, and after addition of latex and wheat starch, coated (at about 5 g/m2 as dry solid) on a substrate such as paper, synthetic paper, or plastic film, and dried to give the CB sheet. [Pg.197]

Sodium hydroxide is the most widely used strong base in the chemical industry. It exists as a white, odorless, crystalline solid at room temperature. Sodium hydroxide is a highly corrosive and toxic substance and is called caustic soda or lye. Sodium hydroxide is used as an alkali in the production of numerous products including detergents, paper, synthetic fabrics, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. It is the ingredient in many common cleaners, degreasers, drain cleaners, and personal care products. [Pg.257]

Casein or Caseinogen. A white phosphoprotein occurring as a colloidal suspension in milk. It can be pptd by heating milk with an acid or by other methods. Casein is the principal ingredient of cottage or other cheeses. It is also used in manuf of plastics, paints, paper, synthetic fibers, etc... [Pg.478]

In industrial filtration a common filter medium is canvas cloth, either duck or twill weave. Many different weights and patterns of weave are available for different services. Corrosive liquids require the use of other filter media, such as woolen cloth, metal cloth of monel or stainless steel, glass cloth, or paper. Synthetic fabrics like nylon, polypropylene, and various polyesters are also highly resistant chemically. [Pg.1015]

Plastic paper (synthetic paper) n. Paper-like products in which the skeletal structure is composed of synthetic resin. Three main types are spunbonded sheet, film paper, and synthetic pump (synpulp). Film papers are similar to thin films of oriented polystyrene or polyolefins but they are treated to obtain opacity and ink receptivity. Syn-pulps are papermaking pumps made usually from polyolefins by processes that produce fibrous pulps without the use of conventional spinning methods. [Pg.729]

Diatomaceous Earth. Diatomaceous earth is a natural form of amorphous silica to which workers ean be exposed during mining, calcining, and bagging. Diatomaceous earth is almost exclusively mined by open-pit methods, and exposure levels of 0.1-2.0 mg/m dust of which 5% is quartz have been reported (20). When diatomaeeous earth is calcined, cristobalite is formed and can account for up to 40% of the hnal product. Diatomaceous earth is a major substrate for filtering or elarifying solvents, pharmaceuticals, beer, whiskey, wine, and municipal and industrial water. It is also used as a filler for paints, paper, synthetic rubber, and securing powders. [Pg.97]
