The possibility of restricted lift, on the other hand, provides the opportunity to achieve smaller or customized API orifices. Here, the curtain area determines the capacity. National Defense Stockpile Goal for tin at 42,700 metric tons. On January 2, 1980, the Strategic and Critical Materials Transaction Authorization Act became effective. This authorizes the President to dispose of materials determined to be excessive to the current needs of the stockpile. This act provides for the sale of up to 35,600 metric tons of tin, including a contribution of up to 5100 metric tons of tin to the International Tin Council (ITC) buffer stock (see below). The GSA set up a schedule to offer about 500 metric tons of Grade A tin, for domestic sales and consumption only, every other Tuesday beginning July 1, 1980. On December 14, 1981, the restrictions on exporting the GSA tin sold were lifted sales increased immediately. Thus, from July 1, 1980, through December 11, 1981, the total GSA sales were 3170 metric tons. An additional 1815 metric tons were sold soon thereafter, mostiy to traders (10). [Pg.59]

Lift trucks are available to meet a variety of clearance restrictions. Noteworthy is narrow-aisle equipment. Another accessory worthy of consideration is the multilift mast, which permits lifting loads over 3.7 m (12 ft). Of special importance in specifying any mast is that it will clear the various door openings it must enter, which includes those of trucks, railcars, and buildings. New types of anodes have been developed and tested as shown in Fig. 16-5 to improve the possibility of maintenance and repair. They can be lifted onto a ship and repaired. The connecting cables are also replaceable. In shallow water, the anchorage must be accurately calculated because considerable dynamic stressing can occur in heavy seas. The ocean floor must be suitable for long-term anchorage. No supply ships must anchor in the area around the platform. A furnace was protected by a relief valve on its inlet line (Figure 10-1). A restriction developed after the furnace. The relief valve lifted and took most of the flow. Asynchronous CA. CA rules are typically defined so that all lattice sites update their values simultaneously throughout the lattice on each time step. A natural generalization is to lift this restriction by allowing asynchronous updates [inger84]. [Pg.17]

Coupled-map Lattices. Another obvious generalization is to lift the restriction that sites can take on only one of a few discrete values. Coupled-map lattices are CA models in which continuity is restored to the state space. That is to say, the cell values are no longer constrained to take on only the values 0 and 1 as in the examples discussed above, but can now take on arbitrary real values. First introduced by Kaneko [kaneko83]-[kaneko93], such systems are simpler than partial differential equations but more complex than generic CA. Hot gases rise by thermal lift. Hence in the open air they will disperse. Within buildings this is a serious cause of fire escalation and toxic/asphyxiation hazards if smoke and hot gases are able to spread without restriction (or venting) to upper levels. Application of the direct electrochemical method requires that reduction of the substrate that generates the radical is easier than reduction of the radical itself. This quite restrictive condition can be lifted by application of the laser flash electron injection method, in which photo-injected electrons from the electrode are used to produce the radical from the substrate (Scheme 2.39) instead of electrons simply obtained by adjustment of the electrode potential.49 The radical may therefore be produced at a potential where it is not reduced at the electrode, thus allowing its reduction characteristics to be investigated. [Pg.172]
