This reaction is carried out under base-catalyzed conditions and with a formaldehyde/phenol ratio greater than unity. The resulting product is called a C state resin or resite. [Pg.325]

Focused Current Resistivity. Focused resistivity devices are particularly suited for wells where highly conductive drilling muds are used, where relatively high formation resitivities are encountered and where large resistivity contrasts are expected. [Pg.978]

A number of methods may be used to reduce the interaction on neighbouring structures. In some circumstances it may be practicable to reduce the current output applied to the protected structure or to resite the ground-bed so that the anode effect on an unprotected pipe or cable is altered as required. The physical separation between the groundbed and nearby buried structures can be increased by installing anodes at the bottom of deep-driven shafts and substantial improvements can be made using this technique. [Pg.239]

The behavior of the physico-mechanical characteristics of polymeric composites is easily traceable in the table given in [144] which presents the results of experiments with polyamide matrices filled with resite particles of different shape. The filler concentrations were adjusted so that the integral contact surface area in the filler-matrix system remained the same. [Pg.18]

Positive temperature coefficient (PCT) thermistors are solids, usually consisting of barium titanate, BaTiOi, in which the electrical resistivity increases dramatically with temperature over a narrow range of temperatures (Fig. 3.38). These devices are used for protection against power, current, and thermal overloads. When turned on, the thermistor has a low resitivity that allows a high current to flow. This in turn heats the thermistor, and if the temperature rise is sufficiently high, the device switches abruptly to the high resisitvity state, which effectively switches off the current flow. [Pg.126]

Baekeland found that a relatively stable resole prepolymer could be obtained by the controlled condensation of phenol and formaldehyde under alkaline conditions. These linear polymers of phenol-formaldehyde (PF) may be converted to infusible cross-linked polymers called resites by heating or by the addition of mineral acids. As shown in structure 4.80, the initial products obtained when formaldehyde is condensed with phenol are hydroxybenzyl alcohols. The linear resole polymer is called an A-stage resin, and the cross-linked resite is called a C-stage resin. [Pg.120]

C-stage Final reaction stage of various thermosetting resins. In this stage material is insoluble and infusible. Resin in fully cured thermosetting molding is in this stage and is referred to as resite. [Pg.147]

Halofantrine (Hf) is a new phenanthrenemethanol antimalarial that shares many physicochemical similarities with cyclosporine and has been the subject of a number of investigations in our laboratory. Hf is orally active, well tolerated, and is finding increasing use in the treatment of malaria associated with multidrug resitant strains of Plasmodium falciparum. However, Hf is extremely lipophilic (log P 8) and poorly water soluble (<10 p,g/mL), and the bioavailability of Hf after oral administration of Hf.HCl tablets is low and variable. [Pg.99]
