Research inventory

The advent of microcomputer-based systems such as those described here provides a new opportunity for individuals to store and manipulate personal and proprietary data. Small data collections of up to a few thousand compounds can be stored to keep track of new research, inventories, and laboratory data. Such information has traditionally been kept in card files or unindexed file folders. When stored as a PC-based structure file, this data can be rapidly searched and specific information easily retrieved and evaluated. [Pg.36]

The HOME inventory (Caldwell and Bradley, 1979) (preschool version) was administered at age 3 years by a nurse trained in its use by a psychologist. This instrument, developed by Bradley and Caldwell (1977), has revealed a substantial relationship between aspects of the home environment and children s intellectual and language development during early childhood. The decision to include this measure, rather than the Parent Attitude Research Inventory, was made after the study group participated in the First International Lead Workshop in Cincinnati in 1981 (Bomshein, 1962). At that time, its administration at 2 years of age was precluded, as some of the cohort had already passed their second birthday. Because the HOME inventory will be administered again at age five years, a measure of its stability over time will be possible. [Pg.334]

The breeder reactor, which would produce and bum plutonium and gradually increase the inventory of fissionable material, requires reprocessing of nuclear fuel. As of 1995 only limited research and development was in progress on breeder reactors, mainly in France and Japan. [Pg.182]

HEU De-Enrichment. Highly enriched uranium (HEU), initially enriched to >93% U, for use in research, naval reactors, and nuclear weapons, may be de-enriched and fabricated into fuel for civihan nuclear reactors. An estimate of the world inventory of highly enriched uranium in the nuclear weapons states is provided in Table 6 (34). [Pg.188]

A fundamental statutory prerequisite to patentabiHty is novelty. A lack of novelty occurs when each and every element of the invention, as it is claimed, is found in a single disclosure which occurs before the date of invention. Such a disclosure may occur in any of a number of forms. To be an adequate disclosure, it should be catalogued or inventoried as a book might be in a reference Hbrary and open to pubHc dissernination. The novelty requirement presents the inventor with an extensive Hst of "cans" and "caimots." Unfortunately, the natural course of research and development often leads to activities which are much more readily categorized as "caimots" than "cans." Ultimately these activities may even proscribe the issuance of a patent if an appHcation is not filed in a timely fashion. [Pg.32]

Valid emission factors for each source of pollution are the key to the emission inventory. It is not uncommon to find emission factors differing by 50%, depending on the researcher, variables at the time of emission measurement, etc. Since it is possible to reduce the estimating errors in the... [Pg.93]

To implement the research provisions, the EPA plans to conduct research in emissions inventories, atmospheric modeling, source/ambient monitoring, control technologies, health, and ecological monitoring. Both ecological... [Pg.405]

Re-opener a permit condition that requires the permitting authority, at a specified time after permit issuance, to review and revise, if necessary, the permit based on new information such as the findings from post-construction monitoring, updated emissions inventories, updated modeling, research, or information on air pollution effects to terrestrial, aquatic, and visibility resources. [Pg.545]

The concentration of the ZSM-5 additive should be greater than 1% of the catalyst inventory to see a noticeable increase in the octane. An octane boost of one research octane number (RON) will typically require a 2% to 5% ZSM-5 additive in the inventory. It should be noted that the proper way of quoting percentage should be by ZSM-5 concentration rather than the total additive because the activity and attrition rate can vary from one supplier to another. There are new generations of ZSM-5 additives that have nearly twice the activity of the earlier additives. [Pg.121]

Queueing Theory.14—Queueing theory occupies a prominent position in operations research because of a wide range of applications with possible transfer of the ideas to other fields, e.g., inventory, and for the use of sophisticated stochastic models.15... [Pg.271]

Recently, a similar European LCA research project was launched, which is due for completion in mid-1995. In order to have a technically sound and comprehensive LCA inventory database, the LCA study includes a broad number of detergent surfactants. Companies involved which form the present LCA... [Pg.216]

Large amounts of carbon are found in the terrestrial ecosystems and there is a rapid exchange of carbon between the atmosphere, terrestrial biota, and soils. The complexity of the terrestrial ecosystems makes any description of their role in the carbon cycle a crude simplification and we shall only review some of the most important aspects of organic carbon on land. Inventories of the total biomass of terrestrial ecosystems have been made by several researchers, a survey of these is given by Ajtay etal.(1979). [Pg.292]

Techniques are needed to record services used by patients, families and others affected by a mental health problem or its treatment. Techniques are also needed to calculate the associated unit costs. These are separate activities. Many instruments have been developed to collect service utilization data. The one that my own research teams employ and which has been widely used elsewhere is the Client Service Receipt Inventory (CSRl ... [Pg.13]

Our inventory also showed that funding levels for materials vary widely across differing materials classes. R D on advanced metals received 13% (the largest fraction in 1992), composites were 11%, electronic materials were 10%, and biomaterials were also 10%. The FCCSET process proved enormously successful in focusing the federal program on materials research. [Pg.19]

Emissions and inventories are in the case of air pollution related to the assessment of the level of pollutants released from various sources. That is to say emission specification of the relevant technologies and pollutants. The determination of emission factors of different substance in WEEE road transport is often the product of national, EU and international research. [Pg.127]
