The preliminary results showed a correlation between physicochemical characteristics of inhibitor (activator) molecules and changes in kinetic parameters of bioluminescent reaction. For example the comparison of the effects of the quinones and phenols on three bacterial bioluminescence systems of different complexity indicates that the influence of the compounds on the bioluminescence intensity depends on the structure and redox characteristics. The inhibitory activity of quinones depends on their hydrophobic substituents and the size of the aromatic part. Such correlations are closely related to the physical mechanism of bioluminescence they are the biophysical basis for bioluminescent ecological monitoring.

Both methods are used for the determination of the metal content. The determination of the concentrations of heavy metals in crude oil and its products is an important topic in environmental chemistry. Heavy metals are always present in crude oil, especially in the heavy fractions such as residual fuel. The control of the concentration of heavy metals in such fuels is very important for ecological monitoring in crude oil chemistry. More about the methods, techniques and modern research results made by atomic absorption spectroscopy and atomic emission spectroscopy can be found in references 80-82 shown at the end of this chapter.

The market appearance of the above submersible robots makes it possible to discuss the possibility of creating national or international systems for the ecological monitoring of coastal sea regions.
