Reporting administrative functions

Basic functions of the GUI include administrative functions as patient and study selection, report viewing and generation, and visualization functions as cine loop, maximum intensity projection (MIP), multi-planar reformatting (MPR including oblique and curved reconstructions, cut planes, measurement tools for distances and angles, magnifying glass, annotations, etc. 

A central collection area should be established where all reports are collected. This is normally an administrative function even thongh, in some organizations, a safety coordinator is allocated the responsibility of administrating the collection, analysis, and submission of near miss incident reports. Both formal and informal incident reports should be colleeted and tabulated on a simple spreadsheet. 

The ATSDR works to protect adverse human health effects from hazardous substance exposures from waste sites, unplanned toxic releases, and pollution sources present in the environment. Congress intended ATSDR to perform functions that include public health assessments of waste sites, health consultations concerning specific hazardous substances, applied research in support of public-health assessments, information development/dissemination, and education/training concerning hazardous substances. The agency reports administratively to the CDC. 

In 1981, Chinese Restaurant Asthma was reported following capsule administration of MSG to several asthmatics (37). However, the researchers failed to account for other allergens to which the subjects could have been exposed and did not utilize the scientific practice of a "control" substance which would have helped to determine if glutamate triggered this response. In a double-blind crossover study, chronic asthmatics were challenged with MSG or a placebo. No decrease in pulmonary function was observed (39). 

One component of the age-ielated decline in immune function is decreased production of the lymphokine that promotes the growth of T-ceUs, interleukin 2 (IL-2). Administration of recombinant-derived IL-2, both in vitro and in vivo, appears to restore certain immune functions in aged mice. Recovery of T-regulatory effects on B-ceU differentiation has been reported in human cells from elderly patients treated with IL-1 and/or IL-2 (42). Similar effects have been observed in the presence of the pentapeptide thymopentin [69558-55-0] (Arg Lys Asp Val Tyr), a weU-known IL-2 inducer. Recombinant IL-2 adrninistered to aged mice for three weeks has been shown to correct the T-ceU functional deficiency associated with antigen-specific immunoglobulin production by certain lymphoid tissue (43). 

Facility Manager Ray Leonard is the task force s primary contact for the test. Ray is now assisting us with designing the pilot, and will be responsible for all communications, administration, and other management functions associated with its installation. He will provide weekly progress reports, and will be a strong contributor to the system review and refinement process once the test is complete. 

The antioxidant property of ferulic acid and related compounds from rice bran was reported by Kikuzaki et al, (2002). Their results indicated that these compounds elicit their antioxidant function through radical scavenging activity and their affinity with lipid substrates. Another recent study reported by Butterfield et al, (2002) demonstrated that ferulic acid offers antioxidant protection against hydroxyl and peroxyl radical oxidation in synaptosomal and neuronal cell culture systems in vitro. The effect of ferulic acid on blood pressure (BP) was investigated in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). After oral administration of ferulic acid the systolic blood pressure (SBP) decreased in a dose-dependent manner. All equipment to be used at the field site should be calibrated at or near the field laboratory or field site prior to the application of the test substance (pesticide product). Most weather equipment will have been calibrated at the manufacturer and can be checked for functionality prior to the worker exposure/re-entry test by comparing weather readings from the nearest airport or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather reporting station with the weather readings compiled by the portable weather station. Hand-held weather instmments could also be checked with current weather reading from local airports or NOAA facilities. 

A protease-specific model has also been reported in which a replication-defective adenovirus encoding an NS3 protease-SEAP fusion protein is injected into mouse tail veins, resulting in expression of the fusion protein in the liver [82, 83]. Protease activity can be detected both by measuring activity of liberated SEAP or by protease-induced liver damage. Protease activity was found to be reduced by administration of protease inhibitors. This model can be used to show that candidate inhibitors have adequate pharmacokinetic properties in mice to function in the intended target organ, but it is not a true disease model.
