Repair jobs

Small-particle-size cement has found a number of uses in production and injection well casing repair jobs [440]. Oil-based cement is particularly useful for water shutoff jobs, because the hydrocarbon slurry sets only in the presence of water, so the oil-producing sections of a reservoir remain relatively damage free after water shutoff. The selective water shutoff with oil-based cement also has been used with polymers crosslinked by metal crosslinkers [442,1178]. [Pg.132]

On February 23, 1999, a flash fire occurred at the Tosco Avon, California refinery killing four workers and critically injuring one other. The accident occurred while a critical piping repair job was underway on the crude fractionation unit. A small naphtha leak had been reported on February 10, but almost two weeks had lapsed while workers attempted to isolate the circuit and physically remove a corroded section of line. The unit remained in production while this work was taking place. [Pg.343]

Tragically, the repair job was many feet down the header, and the nitrogen-powered grinder exhausted into the confined space, asphyxiating the repairman. A well-intentioned, simple, one-minute modification to piping by a small contractor cost a fife of a coworker. [Pg.152]

Between May 17 and 19, Topf engineer Messing disassembled the three forced-draft blowers of crematorium II (RGVA, 502-1-306, pp. 91-91a). A few days later, the Koehler company began the repair job (RGVA, 502-1-313, p. 37). [Pg.403]

The finished article should always look like a new article and not like a repair job. [Pg.80]

Hydrofluoric acid bums present a specific set of management problems (see p 221). Relevant occupations include not only the microelectronics industry but maintenance or repair jobs in which hydrofluoric acid-containing mst removers are used. [Pg.523]

Percent craft performance (CP) Evaluates actual craft performance against a reasonable/reliable planned time for a planned repair job or task such as PM inspections. Where craft labor utilization measures effectiveness, this measure addresses the efficiency factor for overall craft effectiveness (OCE). This measure is improved by having effective craft skills to do the job, along with the motivation to work efficiently. It is directly impacted by shop working areas, having the right personal and special tools available, and safe working conditions. [Pg.1601]

Indicators may be used to provide an objective, accurate measurement of the different services provided in the department. These can measure specific individual, team, and departmental performance parameters. Typical indicators might include simple tallies of the quantity or level of effort for each activity, productivity (quantity/effort), percentage of time spent performing each activity, percentage of scheduled IPMs (inspection and preventive maintenance procedures) completed within the scheduled period, mean time per job by activity, repair jobs not completed within 30 days, parts order for greater than 60 days, etc. [Pg.802]

Pneumatic hammers are labour intensive but have low capital cost and are very versatile. They will cut behind the bars and get between them. Research by the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) has shown that the contract terms for a repair job are a major influence upon the contractor s decision as to how concrete removal is done (Vorster, 1992). If concrete removal is in small areas, pneumatic hammers are more practical than the larger plant such as hydrojetting or milling equipment discussed later. If the area of concrete to be broken out undefined at the tender stage and the contractor is paid by the square metre (or cubic metre) there is less risk with a low capital cost approach like pneumatic hammers. [Pg.115]

Fuel, power, water, lubricants, and consumables for welding and gas cutting. Electrical, instmmentation spares and civil repair jobs (flooring, support beams and columns, and storm water drains lining). [Pg.163]

Any repair job is not left incomplete. This may cause accidents in night shifts. Instruments and process controllers (control valves) shall be confirmed to be working correctly. Settings shall be as per directive from senior plant engineers/authorised persons. [Pg.324]

Reahstic, in the case of the tm variable (preventive maintenance time) if one uses ED or WD, and it refers to the testing or small-scale repair jobs (performed on-site). [Pg.610]

ABSTRACT Reliability analysis of complex systems is complicated by several factors. The possible unreliability of logistic support elements may lead to decrease of performance of the system being supported. As a result both systems must be considered in a single model. However, the simultaneous setting of all structural parameters (e.g. redundancy, repair shop capacity) and control variables (e.g. spare part inventory levels, maintenance policy parameters, repair job priorities, time redundancy) is mathematically a hard problem. That is why this paper describes FTTD modeling technique for handling these difficulties. Moreover, the application example of tram network performance is described. Fault tree with time dependencies model for the presented example and its analysis is discussed. [Pg.2162]

A piping repair job and a quick return of the piping to chlorine service provided a surprise. The team was not fully aware of the hazards. It should have been planned better to allow the normal but necessary cooling of the steel pipeline before introducing chlorine. [Pg.167]

Equipment for Major Maintenance or Fabrication Optional additional purchases If more funds are available, one may procure drilling machine, lathes, grinders, shapers, band saws if more repair jobs are to be taken up in house. These can be used for minor fabrication work in-house and hence can be useful for future expansion work also. However, pressure vessels may not be fabricated in-house as this would require special expertise and statutory licence. [Pg.259]

Nature can devastate a communications site. Lightning can seriously damage an unprotected facility with little or no warning, leaving an expensive and time-consuming repair job. The first fine of defense is proper grounding of the communications system. [Pg.1208]

However, the stages are not necessarily separate. Numerous sequences m be involved, and the complete activity may go on for d s, months or even years. Feedback from one activity informs and directs associated activities. For example, consider a repair job on a vehicle or piece of machinery. It may be discovered after dis-manthng that a part will need to be replaced or remetalled and the remetalling tested. That sets off a second action sequence and so on. [Pg.526]

Next, specific chemicals in the process and how each is generally used should be determined. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for each chemical used needs to be obtained from the manufacturer of the chemical. Determine which tasks are performed during what jobs, and where and when those tasks are carried out. Employees in the work areas with the highest risk of dust exposure, such as drillers, laborers, baggers, and crusher operators, to name a few, should be especially observed in the initial walk-through survey of the operation. Maintenance and repair jobs that require working in confined spaces should be identified and described, and the frequency of occurrence should be noted. [Pg.266]

The international and nationaT standards specify requirements and methods of test for liquid epoxy paints and internal coatings of such paints in steel pipes and fittings for the conveyance of non-corrosive gas. They also deal with the application of the paint. Other paints or paint systems are not excluded, provided they comply with the requirements given in the standards. The coating consists of one layer, which is normally shop-applied on blast-cleaned steel by airless spray or other suitable spraying techniques. The applied and cured paint film must be smooth to give the desired reduction in friction. Brush application is only used for small repair jobs. [Pg.41]

I still have a wooden stool I made in shop class as a teenager, with turned legs and a woven seat. It s a nice piece, and what it taught me at a tender age is that the things we make with our hands are valuable to us. It also taught me how much fun tools can be Some items, such as hammers, planes, and saws, are great basics to have on hand for minor repair jobs, but with the addition of some (carefully used) power tools, a whole world of wood- and metalworking opens up. [Pg.273]

Even if you think you re not a mechanic, you ll likely face an Issue with one or all of your modes of transportation, whether that be bicycle, car, or motorcycle. Luckily, there are a lot of repair jobs that can be accomplished with only a few basic tools. Some auto repairs are so simple that there s absolutely no reason to take your car to a garage—other than your own —to fix It. And anyone who rides a bike should be able to repair a flat. With these tools on hand, you can. [Pg.361]

Repair job. A product that exhibits substantial volume and good growth potential (near the middle of the S curve), but has low profitability that stems from a single major defect, a problem that is clearly definable and readily corrected, such as positioning in another market. Fix it, and "let the good times roll "... [Pg.112]

In June 1955, the reactor was shut down because of leaks which developed in the fuel container and permitted the radioactive fuel to contaminate the inside of the reactor shield. After a major repair job, operation of the reactor with a new core was resumed in IMarch 1957 at a power level of 500 watts, and the reactor has operated successfully at that level for a year. [Pg.347]
