PORTS is a public information system that provides real-time information to the general public and provides essential information for safe and cost-effective navigation, search-and-rescue, hazardous material and oil spill prevention and response, and scientific research. PORTS also provides NOAA s Global Ocean Observing System with coastal ocean measurement and dissemination components. All data are continuously archived and are available to the public. PORTS data are broadcast over NOAA Weather Radio hourly by the National Weather Service and are available on a priority basis for trajectory modeling in support of fhe U.S. Coasf Guard. PORTS systems were operational at the following locafions in 2008 ... [Pg.85]

Two concerns arise which CSIN administration has not addressed so far. First, the emphasis has been to provide access only through well-established existing sources. No apparent effort has been made to consider the need for drawing together the multiplicity of information submitted to the EPA Office of Pesticides and Toxic Substances in an easily accessible form for agency use. With the exception of information contained in the Chemicals In Commerce Information System (CICIS), developed primarily to accommodate TSCA Inventory and other related information, regulatory personnel often are not aware what is already available and request repetitive submissions from industry. Furthermore, conclusions are drawn only from publicly available data-bases. Data already available within the agency are not readily accessible for its own personnel. Apparently, this situation is a result of non-responsiveness, so far, to TSCA Section 10 s mandate. [Pg.118]

Public information about infrastructures and control systems is available to potential hackers and intruders. The availability of this infrastructure and vulnerability data was demonstrated by a university graduate student, whose dissertation reportedly mapped every business and industrial sector in the American economy to the fiber-... [Pg.125]

An alarm system for notifying personnel of an emergency in progress and for communicating action required, such as information only, shelter-in-place, or evacuate. This could include bells, sirens, whistles, horns, or public address systems. [Pg.48]

The aims of the automation group at LGC were very clear and are shown in Table 1.3. Simphcity was considered to be the best approach, with the minimum number of processes being involved. A more complex approach has many more chances of failure. The total systems approach is defined in Chapter 3. Essentially, it sets out to cover all aspects of the analytical process as defined in Fig. 1.2. It provides for the quahty checks at operator, supervisor and managerial levels, and rehable results transferred in a readily digestible format. The Tar and Nicotine Survey described by Stockwell and Copeland [IS] is a good example of the approach. The total process, from the statistical sampHng pattern through to quahty-controlled data, leads in its final format to results tabulated for public information. [Pg.259]

Prous Science provides a database for drug discovery and development encompassing all the areas in drug discovery, including metabolism. Integrity enables researchers to combine chemistry and genomics data with pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics databases. All the data are cumulated through available public records, literature, conferences, and patents. This database is a very useful system to acquire public information (290). [Pg.492]

No health system in the world have unlimited access to all medicines. Rational selection of essential medicines is one of the core principles of national medicines policy. It focuses on therapeutic decisions, professional training, public information, financing, supply and quality assurance efforts on... [Pg.80]

PE, RIE and IM resistances for an extensive list of commercial photoresists are included as well for comparison with the vinyl systems and amongst themselves. Although the exact com-osition of these systems is not public information, the generic type of base resin or polymer binder is generally known. In addition, the photoactive components are all known to be aromatic azides or azo-compounds. [Pg.63]

As more information on the extent of the contamination and the dangerous effects of perchlorate consumption has become available, much concern has arisen over perchlorate contamination in public water systems. Furthermore, the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has periodically reduced the acceptable limit for safe consumption. Currently, the limit stands at 0.7 pg/kg/day, which corresponds to 24.5 pg/E for a 70 kg human drinking 2 E of water per day. The method described by Eamb et al. [17] provides effective perchlorate determinations (shown in Figure 7) using standard conductimetric detection by combining an... [Pg.16]

Algorithm development in the areas of computer editing, data base management, sorting, computer-based composition, and text searching have been critical to the overall development of computer-based primary and secondary publications systems and text search services. Results of these developments are illustrated in the computer-based information system used at Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) [ 1]. Lynch [2J describes principles and techniques for the computer-based information services and... [Pg.128]
