Public education development

Administrative representatives are often shy about developing water reuse projects. Evaluations of the risks related to water reuse have been twisted so as to be employed in political arguments during election campaigns, which may explain the reluctance of politicians. The host of new synthetic organic pesticides presents a variety of problems to the practicing physician because of the lack of basic fundamental information on these chemicals. The American Medical Association has organized a committee on pesticides to consider the following problems of economic poisons and to coordinate information and make it available to physicians and other interested persons or groups safe standards of use, development of prophylactic and antidotal measures, voluntary industry controls, standardization of nomenclature, and professional and public education. 

Recent research has shown that the risk of stroke immediately after TIA or minor stroke is considerable (Giles and Rothwell 2007 Wu et al. 2007). However, this poses a challenge to clinical services because although the majority of patients will, by definition, have suffered a transient illness with no immediate major sequelae, an important minority are at risk of a major stroke in the short term. Prognostic tools have, therefore, been developed to identify patients at high (and low) risk in order to inform public education, aid effective triage to secondary care and direct secondary preventive treatment. 

In order to gain rapid progress toward these intriguing goals, the level of government and private funding in the nanosciences continues to soar. This rapid statistical response in reducing mattress smoldering fire losses is gratifying. Yet there is controversy about whether the improvements were caused by the standard or by public education. In the more affluent countries, such as Australia and New Zealand, we need a public education campaign to inform the public of the need to use iodized salt and lobby governments for the implementation of mandatory salt iodization. In the meantime, all pregnant and breast-feeding women in this country should be made to take daily iodine supplements to ensure optimal iodine nutrition for the developing fetus.
