Few things make risk communication more difficult than conflicts or public disagreements with other credible sources. 

Beware the big splash " it s a hard act to follow. Large-scale publicity— whether inside or outside a company—raises expectations of immediate, radical benefit or change that are often unrealistic, and puts your credibility on the line. Make sure PSM communications are consistent, timely, accurate, and persuasive to build and maintain credibility over time. 

Few things make risk communication more difficult than conflicts or public disagreements with oilier credible sources.

The differences among the three terms are not just of theoretical interest. They touch nearly every aspect of our daily lives because they are central to the functions of the agencies that protect the public health and the environment. Specifically, to be credible, these agencies must base their actions on "accepted scientific knowledge. Consequently, they collect enormous amounts of experimental data. These data, however, are of little use until they are first converted to scientific information and then placed in the context of other relevant scientific information and thereby become knowledge.

There is, therefore, a need to reach a consensus on how to choose and use appropriate methods, and to present this in the form of guidance for prospective users.
