The CamuS system is currently in the form of a laboratory prototype and is undergoing a series of validation tests using an extensive set of test-pieces covering a range of geometries and classes of defect which has been manufactured for the purpose. [Pg.772]

Focus - Engineers usually like to realize their designs in hardware as soon as possible and to test prototypes and debug problems. With the ever inereasing time pressures on teams, it is even more important to deteet and eliminate as many problems in the design as early as possible, beeause they take mueh longer and eost mueh more to fix later. [Pg.264]

Designing products is usually performed based on experience since most products only require a practical approach (Fig. 1-4). Experience is also used in producing new and complex shaped products usually with the required analytical evaluation that involves stress-strain characteristics of the plastic materials. Testing of prototypes and/or preliminary production products to meet performance requirements is a very viable approach used by many. [Pg.127]

Avoiding product failures can depend, in part, on the ability to predict the performance of plastic materials and their shapes. With available time, the usual approach of product prototype and/or field-testing provides useful and reliable performance data when conducted properly. As an example designers continue to develop sophisticated computer methods for calculating stresses in complex structures. [Pg.293]

There are different techniques to evaluate the quantitative stress level in prototype and production products. They can predict potential problems. Included is the use of electrical resistance strain gauges bonded on the surface of the product. This popular method identifies external and internal stresses. Their various configurations are made to identify stresses in different directions. This technique has been extensively used for over a half century on very small to very large products such as toys to airplanes. There is the optical strain measurement system that is based on the principles of optical interference. It uses Moire, laser, or holographic interferometry (2,3,20). [Pg.302]

Research users need full access to the functional elements of the spectrometer system and require the most efficient and flexible tools for MR sequence and application development. If the measurement methods delivered with the software do not adequately address the specific investigational requirements of a research team, modem NMR software is an open architecture for implementing new and more sophisticated functionality, with full direct access to all hardware controlling parameters. After evaluation, the new functionality can be developed with the help of toolbox functions that allow rapid prototyping and final builds, to enable the new sequence to be executed by non-experienced personnel and then used in routine applications. These toolboxes provide application oriented definitions and connect to standard mechanisms and routine interfaces, such as the geometry editor, configuration parameters or spectrometer adjustments. [Pg.57]

The convection heat flux is usually much smaller than radiation flux in significant fires. Preserving II5, Il6 and Ilg yields q" l1 2, which is inconsistent with the radiation flux (Equation (12.53)). However, if the same fuel is used in the model as in the prototype and no change occurs in k as k 7 then the radiation flux is... [Pg.391]
