Anticoccidial Activity. The 1968 report that claimed monensin has activity against Eimeria sp., particularly E. tenella E. macdma., and E. acervulina greatly altered the prevention and control of coccidiosis in poultry (172). It is estimated that the polyether ionophores presently constitute more than 80% of the total worldwide usage of anticoccidials (173). Lasalocid and monensin have been approved for use in control of coccidiosis in cattle. [Pg.172]

Toxicology. The toxicity of ethyl ether is low and its greatest hazards in industry are fire and explosion. The vapor is absorbed almost instandy from the lungs and very prompdy from the intestinal tract. It undergoes no chemical change in the body. Prevention and control of health hazards associated with the handling of ethyl ether depend primarily on prevention of exposure to toxic atmospheric concentrations and scmpulous precautions to prevent explosion and fire. [Pg.428]

The air inside a factory building can be polluted by release of contaminants from industrial processes to the air of the workroom. This is a major cause of occupational disease. Prevention and control of such contamination are part of the practice of industrial hygiene. To prevent exposure of workers to such contamination, industrial hygienists use industrial ventilation systems that remove the contaminated air from the workroom and discharge it, either with or without treatment to remove the contaminants, to the ambient air outside the factory building. [Pg.40]

List several pollution prevention and control technologies aimed at reducing nitrogen oxides in combustion processes. Among these, which are considered the most cost-effective methods for reducing NO, emissions ... [Pg.52]

In this chapter we focus our attention on some of the point sources of air emissions within different types of plant operations, along with the methods of abatement. Although we do not make direct comparisons between prevention and control methodologies until Chapter 6, the reader should gain an appreciation for the simplicity of applying pollution prevention as opposed to incorporating engineering controls in many situations. [Pg.53]
