Preparation of adhesives

Vinyl neopentanoate is used in the preparation of adhesives and binders (44—46), optical materials for plastic lenses (47), gas permeable membranes for oxygen enrichment (48), and in coating appHcations (49,50). [Pg.104]

In the preparation of adhesive patches by direct milling on a two-roll mill, the drug and the bioadhesive are homogeneously mixed with or without the aid of a solvent. The polymer/drug mixture may then be compressed to its desired thiekness and patches of appropriate size may be cut or punched out. The polymer/drug mixture prepared with a solvent may require an additional drying step by air or in an oven. [Pg.209]

The steam explosion process is a recent development in wood processing (1,2). Much attention has been paid to this process from the viewpoint of total wood utilization. Cellulose and hemicellulose from this process can be converted into sugars of commercial value by enzymatic methods (3). However, the conversion of lignin from this process (steam explosion lignin) into useful materials continues to present difficulties. Preparation of adhesives from it is considered to be a feasible way to solve this problem. [Pg.337]

The preparation of adhesives for plastics presents some special problems (the surfaces of plastics are especially difficult to unite in this way) but many of the difficulties have been overcome and bonding is a method to be considered on equal terms with the welding or fastening of components by mechanical means. Bonding with adhesives is the method to be preferred when offering the prospect of satisfactory results at lower costs per unit. [Pg.91]

The compounding ingredients for preparation of adhesion test specimens, magnesia (MgO), zinc oxide, Zalba Special (hindered phenol antioxidant from E. I. duPont de Nemours and Co.), and Bakelite-brand t-butylphenolic resin CK-1634 (Union Carbide Corp.) were used as... [Pg.577]

After the discovery of the phenomena of these wood liquefactions, various trials have been done in order to (1) increase the biomass concentration in the liquefaction mixture, (2) obtain the true liquefaction degree in relation to the soluble properties of liquified biomass in organic solvents, and (3) understand the mechanism of the liquefaction. Applications of these wood liquefactions have also been developed in the preparations of adhesives, moldings, foams, and so forth. [Pg.186]

The mechanical troweling apparatus for preparation of adhesion test specimen of plastering materials to concrete substrate has been proposed by R.NANIWA. Workability of PLCM were estimated by 3 rheological characteristics horizontal reaction force Ftr, vertical reaction force Fnr and reaction moment Mr at the grip (supporting point) were measured. Fig. 5 shows the schema of troweling motion and the apparatus in this test method. Some examples of test... [Pg.65]

The mechanical troweling apparatus for preparation of adhesion specimen of plastering material to concrete substrate can estimate satisfactorily the workability of PLCM with visco-elastic behavior. Workability of existing PLCM is not always sufficient to apply. It is necessary to improve the characteristics of PLCM. [Pg.70]

Preparation of Adhesive Cards 1. Put double-sided adhesive tapes on one side of the support cards (fee Note 14). 2. Cut the adhesive board into 7.5 x 30 cm2 strips to make adhesive cards. [Pg.176]

OTHER COMMENTS used in cleaning and degreasing of metals used in the manufacture of paint removers, lacquers, varnishes, and varnish removers used as a solvent in preparation of adhesives useful as a chemical intermediate in manufacture of trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene use in refining of waxes and resins note use has been forbidden or restricted in certain countries. [Pg.938]

Adhesives Nitrile rubber both in latex form and as solutions is used in the preparation of adhesives which have to be designed to maintain strength in the presence of oils or solvents. [Pg.190]

NR150A2 - This polyimide resin also supplied by DuPont is stable at elevated temperatures exhibits good processing characteristics and is tougher but possesses lower Tg than NR150B2 The base resin was evaluated unfilled and with 30 phr aluminum powder (Alcoa 101). Both formulations were applied to 112 A-llOO glass fabric for preparation of adhesive films. Chemicals used for synthesis and cured polymer structure is shown below ... [Pg.494]

Condensed tannins constitute more than 90 per cent of the total world production of commercial tannins (200000 tons per year) [11]. Their high reactivity towards aldehydes and other reagents renders them both chemically and economically more interesting for the preparation of adhesives, resins and other applications apart from leather tanning. The main commercial species, such as mimosa and quebracho, also yield excellent heavy duty leather. Condensed tannins and their flavonoid precursors are known for their wide distribution in nature and particularly for their substantial concentration in the wood and bark of various trees. These include various Acacia (wattle or mimosa bark extract), Schinopsis (quebracho wood extract), Tsuga (hemlock bark extract), Rhus (sumach extract) species, and various Pinus bark extract species, from which commercial tannin extracts are manufactured. [Pg.184]

Resol resins (resols or resoles) are prepared by the interaction of a phenol with a molar excess of formaldehyde (commonly about 1 1.5—2) under alkaline conditions. This procedure corresponds to Baekeland s original technique. Resols are now used mainly in the preparation of adhesives, binders and laminates. [Pg.282]

Our research has centered on the production of a mussel glue analog protein in bacteria. The primary objective was the practical implementation of a gene cassette approach to the biological preparation of adhesive polymers. A synthetic DNA sequence has been constructed which codes for tandem repeats of the decapeptide precursor. This sequence has been cloned into E, coli. Our results show that a polydecapeptide analog protein of 25 kDa was successfully expressed from the synthetic gene. [Pg.250]

Abstract This chapter constitutes one of the very few reviews in the existing literature on shoe bonding, and it gives an updated overview of the upper to sole bonding by means of adhesives. The surface preparation of rubber soles and both the formulations of polyurethane and polychloroprene adhesives are described in more detail. The preparation of adhesive joints and adhesion tests are also revised. Finally, the most recent development and technology in shoe bonding is described. [Pg.1316]
