Preparation for Shipment

Once testing and final inspection are complete, the unit is prepared for shipment. The specification should have detailed the type of storage anticipated and expected time. It should have specified indoor, warehouse, outside storage, or whatever is planned. An anticipated time point should also have been stated. The contract should have stated the mode of shipment and destination instructions. Upon notice of shipment, the traffic department (if there is one) may wish to monitor the shipment. 

The equipment shall be prepared for shipment after all testing and inspection has been eompleted and the equipment has been released by the purehaser. The preparation shall include that specified in 4.4.3.1 through 4.4.3.11. 

The design flowrate of the pilot-scale test system is 10 gph or 900 L/day, which is adequate for small quantity generators, or a slip stream from a higher capacity operation could be used. Once onsite testing is completed, the system may be transported to an operating facility for demonstration testing. The test system will be constructed in four modules to simplify transportation. When the modules are prepared for shipment, only Interconnected piping will need to be separated and capped. 

Fresh khat leaves are most often prepared for shipment in bouquet-sized bundles, wrapped in plastic bags or banana leaves, then tied together. The bundles are sprayed with water to keep the leaves fresh and moist, especially important when the leaves are shipped outside of the country of origin.

Preparation for shipment shall conform to the requirements of the Protective Coatings and Valve Protection subsections of IP 3-12-9. 

Finally, the black-brown americium oxide is sieved through a 170 mesh 7.6 cm screen on a mechanical shaker. A complete analysis is done to determine whether the Am02 meets the required product specifications. The analysis of representative batches of americium oxide produced at LASL is shown in Table II. Radiochemistry, emission spectroscopy, calorimetry, and spark source mass spectrometry are used in the analysis of the Am02. Providing the Am02 meets all of the product specifications, it is prepared for shipment. Product not meeting these specifications is recycled through the process at the proper entry point. 

The fermium, einsteinium, and berkelium are transferred from the main hot cells and are purified further and prepared for shipment in a small hot cell and in glove box facilities that are kept free from undesirable contaminants. The chemical processing (13) involves numerous additional cycles of ion exchange purification on the micro scale.

Upon completion of the Porton Down tests and closure of the site, the TDC system was prepared for shipment to Crescent City, Illinois, for storage. In December 2007 and January 2008, the system was prepared for shipment to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. Several flexible connections were replaced. The extraction process for radioisotopes is a combined chemical/distillation process in which the noble gases and iodine are first condensed from the target fill gas. Next, the UO2 fuel and fission products are dissolved from the inside of the target in an acidic solution and a wet chemistry process is used to selectively precipitate isotopes of interest. The precipitates are further washed, filtered, redissolved and purified. Finally, the isotope solution is prepared for shipment. 

When a CCP is full, the EVTM transfers the CCP with the SNF assembly in sodium from the reactor vessel to the EVST. After a suitable decay period, the SNF can be removed from the EVST and prepared for shipment from the plant. 

When preparing for shipment, flange covers should be shipped in place. Flanges or pads that do not have covers should be protected with temporary covers securely fastened in place.

The consignor shall have in his or her possession a copy of each certificate required under Section VIII of these Regulations and a copy of the instructions with regard to the proper closing of the package and other preparations for shipment before making any shipment under the terms of the certificates.
