Safe storage

There is finally another type of jet fuel somewhat heavier and less volatile than TRO, which allows safe storage on aircraft carriers. This is the TR5 or JP5. Among these products, TRO or Jet Al have the most widespread acceptance because they are used for almost all the world s civil aviation fleet. The information that follows will concern essentially TRO, and very rarely TR4. 

Whereas the safe storage of hydrogen has been practiced for many years, as of this writing almost all hydrogen is used near the production site.

The object of compacting the fines is to exclude air to ensure safe storage. If proper precautions are taken then coal can be stored safely. However, the user should be aware of the potential dangers of spontaneous combustion and the measures necessary to avoid this problem. 

Additional information may be had on storage of chemicals from several sources. Material Safety Data Sheets, for example, have specific instructions with regard to storage. The local fire inspector will have good suggestions, and much can be found in reference books. Above all, the laboratory operator should throughly familiarize himself with all chemicals to be used in order to develop a safe storage system.
