TTiese include an IBM PC/AT computer that functions in conjunction with a Zymate System V Controller located beneath the table top. Other devices located on this table include an autotitrator with solvent/titrant reservoirs, a pneumatic solvent switching valve, a metering pump, and a Zymark Power and Event Controller (PEC). A bar code printer provides labels for sample vials, and a printer is used for hard copy report generation. The devices mounted on the robot table (approximately 90x 1 SO cm) are listed in Table 6.S. [Pg.180]

Smith et al. [33] described a robot system which was designed to address this sudden need for large numbers of absorbers. The system (shown in Fig. 6.14) is based on a Zymark Zymate II arm run with a System V controller, three power and event controllers and a balance interface with Mettler PE-160 balance). [Pg.193]

Any residual material left in the shuttle is blanketed by a slow flow of dry nitrogen gas to prevent fouling of the shuttle between uses. Pneumatic cylinders, driven from solenoid valves that are controlled by a power- and event-controller, provide the shuttle motion, and position is confirmed by Hall Effect detectors on the pneumatic cyhnders and monitored by the power and event controller. [Pg.195]

One of the essential units for completion of the overall analytical process by an automated system is the detector, which cannot be considered a module or peripheral as it preserves its identity as such and is only connected to the Power and Event Controller (PEC) for switching on, instrumental variable programming and data collection the robotic arm acts as a bridge between the other steps of the analytical process and detection, either by inserting the treated sample into the detector or by connecting the treated sample with the detector via fibre optics (occasionally furnished with a sensor) or electrical wire. [Pg.510]

RISKMAN is an integrated Microsoft Windows , personal computer software system for [H. i forming quantitative risk analysis. Used for PSAs for aerospace, nuclear power, and chemical [iroccsses, it has five main modules Data Analysis, Systems Analysis, External Events Analysis, Event Tree Analysis, and Important Sequences. There are also modules for software system maintenance, backup, restoration, software updates, printer font, and page control. PEG has also integrated the fault tree programs CAFTA, SETS, NRCCUT, and IRRAS into RISKMAN. [Pg.143]

The loss of all AC power initiator includes both commercial (offsite) power and all three diesels, including the normally-running diesel. Local fault events include localized flow blockages in iho core and localized fuel faults. A lobe power imbalance initiator occurs if the individually-controlled core section powers (lobe powers)... [Pg.409]

The most convenient means of making time-resolved SH measurements on metallic surfaces is to use a cw laser as a continuous monitor of the surface during a transient event. Unfortunately, in the absence of optical enhancements, the signal levels are so low for most electrochemical systems that this route is unattractive. A more viable alternative is to use a cw mode-locked laser which offers the necessary high peak powers and the high repetition rate. The experimental time resolution is typically 12 nsec, which is the time between pulses. A Q-switched Nd YAG provides 30 to 100 msec resolution unless the repetition rate is externally controlled. The electrochemical experiments done to date have involved the application of a fast potential step with the surface response to this perturbation followed by SHG [54, 55,116, 117]. Since the optical technique is instantaneous in nature, one has the potential to obtain a clearer picture than that obtained by the current transient. The experiments have also been applied to multistep processes which are difficult to understand by simple current analysis [54, 117]. [Pg.157]

Examining these structures and the fact that they are all powered by ATP, the question remains as to how force is actually produced. Geeves and Holmes (2005) argue that myosin acts by the specific coupling between different myosin head states and different positions of the lever arm on the motor domain, so that, once attached to actin, the myosin acts as an ATP-driven motor where the energy released by ATP hydrolysis is direcdy coupled to the performance of mechanical work. However, Marx et al. (2005) argue that in some cases the kinesins appear to act as thermal ratchets. In this case, the attachment of a second head, once the first head has bound, is an event controlled by thermal motion, but, presumably for steric reasons, the head is more likely to bind to the microtubule in the... [Pg.11]

The special events of this planet s accretion (Newsom and Jones, 1990 Weatherill, 1990 Ahrens, 1990 Taylor, 2001) were crucial in making Earth habitable over bilhons of years. Segregation of the core physically separated reduction power in the iron-rich center of the Earth, from a more oxidized mantle. Simultaneously, the early events controlling the surface environment made possible the development of a habitable ocean/atmosphere system. [Pg.3874]

During operation, the MULVFS is powered by 480-V three-phase AC power from the ship and is controlled by an Apple 11 computer programmed to disconnect the power in the event of a short circuit or imbalance in load. The computer also monitors the flow rate of one pump unit and records and graphically displays this information along with elec-... [Pg.160]
