Second heads

Figs. 3 and 4 are electron micrographs of a fall armyworm, and a pink bollworm, respectively. Both Insects have three head capsules because they underwent two failed molting cycles before death. That Is, even though feeding became Impossible after the first Inhibited ecdysls because the adhering second head capsule covered the mouthparts, these larvae could synthesize a third head capsule. ... 

Examining these structures and the fact that they are all powered by ATP, the question remains as to how force is actually produced. Geeves and Holmes (2005) argue that myosin acts by the specific coupling between different myosin head states and different positions of the lever arm on the motor domain, so that, once attached to actin, the myosin acts as an ATP-driven motor where the energy released by ATP hydrolysis is direcdy coupled to the performance of mechanical work. However, Marx et al. (2005) argue that in some cases the kinesins appear to act as thermal ratchets. In this case, the attachment of a second head, once the first head has bound, is an event controlled by thermal motion, but, presumably for steric reasons, the head is more likely to bind to the microtubule in the... 

The review of two-dimensional methods starts with the description of the principle and the advantages and main problems of the technique. Under a second heading the apparatus will be described, and many theoretical points will be discussed along with the development of the instrument because in two-dimensional techniques the relation between theory and practice is far more intricate than in zone electrophoresis. After this critical survey of the apparatus, a description of the run according to two different working conditions will close the review. 

Such induction of new phenomena has not been investigated in the context of bioelectric systems but it would not be unreasonable to expect that such phenomena will be found in the near future. In fact the induction of the formation of a second head in certain worms subjected to an external field may be an example (53). 

Milled rice is comprised of head rice, second heads and brewers rice. Unlike most grains, the primary use of rice is its direct consumption as a table food. The two other major uses are in processed foods and to make beer. Head rice is the only rice that is used for table consumption and represents —82% of the milled rice. Broken rice, which is comprised of second heads and brewers rice, is considered to be a byproduct of milling and represents —18% of the milled rice. Broken rice generally has a lower market value than head rice. Due to the relatively high cost of head rice compared with other grains, lower cost by-products of head rice production are preferred for use in processed foods and beer production. In 2004-2005, the USDA estimated that the principle outlets for milled rice in the US included 52% for direct food use,...

The exchange of ATP for ADP in the second head pulls the first head off the microtubule, releasing P and moving the first domain along the microtubule.

We must admit that the EUE theory is a little trickier than it seems. Indeed, rigorously speaking, the EUE problem is not well-defined, because it does not have a unique solution [5]. Nevertheless, we tried to understand what are the most appropriate definitions of the EUE measures. Now, we could report only preparatory results until a subsequent, more substantial analysis. Nevertheless, possible directions to modifying the existing measures are discussed here. In particular, we could retain the same hole-particle description for the modified ( q-extended ) EUE measures in which unwanted small contributions to EUE are suppressed, as it was previously done in the case of the second Head-Gordon index, Eq. (6.94). Another way to produce better EUE indices is to somehow estimate an average localization of the unpaired electron. This leads to a possible measure Eq. (6.88), giving the results which are closer to those expected from a common chemistry sense . 

Two-pack paints, now known generally as 2K coatings, are the largest volume urethane coatings produced, of which those under the second heading below are most popular. The term 2K comes from the German for 2-pack (2 komponenten) in Germany the term IK is used for one-pack finishes. 

A second requirement of the scrubbing control system is to maintain the total solids level in the effluent below 10% w/w. The single variable-speed metering pump motor can therefore be used to drive a second head for the addition of water, thereby controlling the correct water sodium hydroxide ratio. The temperature and flow-rate of the recirculation liquor should be measured and a low-flow alarm incorporated in the liquor recirculation line.

On July 1, 1935 John Leighton Bray, the faculty member with the longest tenure, was appointed to succeed Peffer as the second Head of the School. Bray had joined the School in 1923 with only a B.S. from MIT (1912) but with significant industrial experience which included several years as a mining engineer in Chile, Honduras, Canada (British Columbia) and USA (New York).
