Polyvinyl chloride copolymers

In addition to the polymer, copolymers of vinyl chloride with other vinyl monomers are important commercial plastics. Copolymers with vinyl acetate, which is produced from acetylene and acetic acid, are widely used in sheeting, surface coating, and filaments, being less brittle and more readily soluble in organic solvents than is pure polyvinyl chloride. Copolymers with acrylonitrile are also of importance for the production of... [Pg.314]

Production of all types of vinyl resins, exclusive of plasticizers and fillers, during 1941 to 1950 are presented in Figure 2. These totals are for production of all polymers customarily classified as vinyl resins, including polyvinyl chloride, copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate or vinylidene chloride, or modified polymers derived from them. However, the principal monomeric raw material for this field of resins is vinyl chloride. [Pg.315]

Vinyl acetate is the most important of this family of compounds. Produced from acetic acid and either ethylene or acetylene, vinyl acetate finds uses in production of polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl butyrot. and polyvinyl chloride copolymers. [Pg.54]

The formulated adhesives are generally available as films or solvent solutions. They are commonly used as laminating adhesives for film or metallic foil because of their high peel strength. A composition consisting of a plasticized polyvinyl chloride copolymer and an epoxy resin can be cured with an aliphatic polyamine, which will crosslink by reacting with both resins. This adhesive possesses excellent adhesion to metals. [Pg.131]

Madders. Phenolic polymers are known to have high rigidity, and this property extends to phenolic foams, which are highly friable. In order to reduce friabUity and permit some flexibUity and toughness, various kinds of modifiers are sometimes used. Reactive modifiers are used in the course of resol-resin preparation, and they become integral parts of the polymer structure. Examples include PVA (polyvinyl alcohol), PVA-PVC (polyvinyl alcohol-polyvinyl chloride-copolymer), resorcinol, o-cresol, furfuryl alcohol, and other various types of polyols. [Pg.194]

Polyvinyl chloride polymers This principal corrosion-resistant lacquer is made from polyvinyl chloride copolymers. The vinyl molecule is relatively large and will effectively dissolve in solvent in the 20 percent range. [Pg.611]

Polyvinyl chloride copolymers are typically used in solution form for bonding PVC films to metals, paper, cloth, leather, and also used for foam lamination on plastics. PVC blended with plasticizers are used in automotive industry in adhesive form for bonding inner and outer hood and roof panels, and as a gap-filling adhesive. [Pg.264]
