Glass molding

In order to simplify the analytical exercise, a particular material was selected for each. The single curved sheet is made of TS polyester fiber glass molded to the shape. The corner supported pan is molded from ABS plastics. The structural foam unit is molded from PP with glass fiber filler. [Pg.251]

Polymer Processing. Polymer films were cast in trimethylsilyl coated glass molds from membrane filtered 15% (w/v) methylene chloride or chloroform solutions. Transparent films were obtained which were dried to constant weight in high vacuum. Rectangular strips or round disks were cut from the films. For compression molding a Carver laboratory press equipped with thermostated, heated platens was used. Polymers were placed in a stainless steel mold and heated to 40 °C above their glass transition temperature. Then a load of 1-2 tons was applied for 5 min. [Pg.157]

The polyester product is first dissolved in styrene at a level of 60 % polyester and 40 % styrene. The initiators, either benzoyl peroxides (BPOs) or methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP), with appropriate co-catalysts, are added. The mixture is then poured into a glass mold and cured at room temperature for the MEKP system or at 100 °C for the BPO systems. A post-cure at 100 °C or 130 °C, respectively, for 5 h is then carried out. Blending experiments were carried out by using a dicyclo pentadiene (DCPD) resin, 61-AA-364, from GLS Fiberglass (Woodstock, IL, USA). This sample is pre-promoted , so we could only use the MEKP system. [Pg.717]

A glass mold treated with release agent was used to prepare 0.125" thick cured plates of the resin compositions. These cured plates were used to provide samples for tensile, differential scanning calorlmetery and thermomechanical analysis. [Pg.224]

Methods. Polymer slabs containing Inulln were made as follows 1) H-inulln was diluted with non-radioactive inulln to a specific activity of 3.49 pCl/mg 2) 586 mg of this inulln was suspended in 15 ml of 5% ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer in methylene chloride and 3) this suspension was cast In a square 7cmx7cmx0.5cm glass mold, dried and cut Into nine 1 cm x 1 cm squares as described previously (W). [Pg.96]

Mishra et al. [1994] and Bajpai et al. [1994] determined the microhardness of PMMA/PVDF and PMMA/PCTFE blends (Table 11.9) made by solution casting from dimethyl formamide solutions. The solutions containing the two polymers were heated at 110°C for 3 h and were poured into an optically plain glass mold to prepare pellets of the blends. The poured material was annealed at 75°C for 3 h. The samples were cut from the slowly cooled (24 h) pellets for this work. [Pg.851]

The polyacrylamide gels were prepared by a standard redox reaction with ammonium persulfate and tetramethylethylenediamine (TEMED). Recrystallized acrylamide monomer (5 g), N,N -methylenebis(acrylamide) (0.133 g), ammonium persulfate (40 mg), and TEMED (400 xL) were dissolved in water to make a total volume of 100 mL. After thorough mixing, the preparation was poured through a small aperture into cylindrical or spherical glass molds. Upon gelation, the molds were broken and the gel samples were transferred into a cell containing an excess of water. This time was taken to be zero if = 0) for the kinetics experiments. [Pg.46]
