Polymers business equipments

A monthly pubhcation of McGraw-Hill. It is oriented to marketing, business, and production. Annually it issues the Modern Plastics Encyclopedia. This gives a list of chemical suppliers, equipment manufacturers, polymer properties, equipment descriptions, and machinery selector charts. [Pg.22]

Flame-retardant polystyrene is used primarily in expanded foam for building insulation. Rubber-modified styrenic polymers are flame retarded for use in a number of applications, such as enclosures for electronics and business equipment. By far the largest volume flame-retardant HIPS application is television enclosures (Figure 29.1) these are made primarily from flame-retardant HIPS [3]. Flame-retardant HIPS has an attractive balance of mechanical properties, processability and cost. Flame-retardant styrenic blends such as HIPS-PPO and PC-ABS also find utility in a number of electrical applications such as printers, computers and monitors. These blends have received increasing attention recently because of their ability to be flame retarded with nonhalogen flame retardants (see Section 7). [Pg.686]

The science and technology of polymer blends has now acquired an important position in the area of development of new polymeric materials. Moreover, the application of polymer blends has increased significantly and is expected to continue to grow. Of the total consumption of engineering polymers, more than 20 percent is currently thought to be composed of blends with important and various applications in the automotive, electrical and electronic industry, in computer and business equipment housings, in medical components, etc. Annually about 4900 patents related to polymer blends are published world-wide. [Pg.204]

The versatility of modified PPE resins has resulted in an extensive variety of applications which include automotive interior, exterior, and under-the-hood applications computer and business equipment electrical and electronic devices health care building and construction telecommunications appliances water handling equipment and microwavable food packaging. Noryl modified PPE resins have become the world s most successful and best-known polymer blends and alloys. [Pg.186]

PVC can be blended with other polymers to produce injection-molding compounds. Properties that make these blends suitable for appliance and business equipment housings such as computer monitors and keyboards include good impact strength, heat resistance, flame retardancy, and chemical and solvent resistance. [Pg.639]

Flame retardant (FR) PC/ABS blends constitute a very important class of thermoplastics because of their unique combination of properties provided by constituent polymers. Styrene acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN) matrix in ABS has a favorable interaction with PC allowing for a compatible blend to be commercially widely used without a compatibilizer [1]. These advantages make them an ideal choice for many computer and business equipment housings. They are also used to mold medical housings such as Automated External Defibrillators (AED), Blood... [Pg.729]

The oxidative coupling of 2,6-dimethylphenol to yield poly(phenylene oxide) represents 90—95% of the consumption of 2,6-dimethylphenol (68). The oxidation with air is catalyzed by a copper—amine complex. The poly(phenylene oxide) derived from 2,6-dimethylphenol is blended with other polymers, primarily high impact polystyrene, and the resulting alloy is widely used in housings for business machines, electronic equipment and in the manufacture of automobiles (see Polyethers, aromatic). A minor use of 2,6-dimethylphenol involves its oxidative coupling to... [Pg.69]

Figure 1.1 shows that the methods of manufacturing (semi-)finished plastic parts involve various players equipment manufacturers, polymer producers, additive suppliers, compounders and final processors. It can be safely assumed that the compounder will continue to be the main customer for additives and additive concentrates also in the future. Finally, the recently established Plastics Additive Museum (Lingen, Bavaria), by a pioneer in PVC additives (Barlocher GmbH), shows that the business is coming to age. [Pg.12]

The first important challenge in marketing for plastics is forecasting the business climate of the 60 s, the relative changes in costs of some raw materials, the rate of acceptance of new polymers, and the availability or rate of development of equipment required to do more plastics jobs. [Pg.33]

The market for commercial polymer blends has grown steadily over the past four decades. A recent estimate of the polymer alloy/blend market by volume for 2012 was about 2.2 billion pounds. The market was projected to grow to about 2.6 billion pounds by 2018 (BCC Research 2013). The principal markets for all blends include the automotive industry phone, computer, and other business machine housings electrical components such as connectors appliances consumer products recreational equipment and construction and industrial applications. [Pg.523]
