Polyethylene bags

Butynediol soHd flakes are packed in polyethylene bags inside dmms. The product is hygroscopic and must be protected from moisture. [Pg.106]

Solution polyacrylamides can also be prepared at high polymer soHds by radiation processes (80,81). Polyacrylamides with molecular weights up to 20 million can be prepared by inradiation of acrylamide and comonomers in a polyethylene bag with cobalt-60 gamma radiation at dose rates of 120-200 J/kg-h. The total dose of radiation is controlled to avoid cross-linking. [Pg.142]

Packaging. Most LDPE is packaged in railway hopper cars of 63.5 t capacity, although tmcks of 20 t capacity are also used. Conversely, smaller quantities are packaged either in 500-kg boxes or in 25-kg paper or polyethylene bags. [Pg.373]

Manufacture is either by reaction of molten sodium with methyl alcohol or by the reaction of methyl alcohol with sodium amalgam obtained from the electrolysis of brine in a Castner mercury cell (78). Both these methods produce a solution of sodium methylate in methanol and the product is offered in two forms a 30% solution in methanol, and a soHd, which is a dry, free-flowing white powder obtained by evaporating the methanol. The direct production of dry sodium methylate has been carried out by the introduction of methanol vapors to molten sodium in a heavy duty agitating reactor. The sohd is supphed in polyethylene bags contained in airtight dmms filled in a nitrogen atmosphere. [Pg.26]

Magnesium methylate is sensitive to air and moisture, decomposing to magnesium hydroxide, carbonate, and methanol. It can be stored for one year in polyethylene bags under nitrogen or argon. [Pg.27]

Alkoxides should be stored under cool, dry conditions. The soHds are packed in polyethylene bags under nitrogen or argon that are shipped in dmms with foam mbber gaskets. For the Hquid alkoxides steel dmms are used, usually with a polyethylene liner. [Pg.28]

For shipping purposes, the ampul is placed in aluminum foil or polyethylene bags. The wrapped ampul is packed in a metal can and surrounded by an inert filler material such as vermiculite. These precautions are necessary in order to minimize the chances of ampul breakage during shipment. Most mbidium compounds, however, can be shipped as nonhazardous materials. These compounds are usually stored in glass or polyethylene botdes. [Pg.279]

Sodium borobydride is available as a 12% solution in caustic soda and in soHd form either as powder or pellets (3). The predominant form produced is the solution, the DOT shipping classification for which is corrosive Hquid. Forms of packaging are 18.9-L pails, 208.2-L dmms, and either tank tmck or tank car for bulk shipments. 1991 pricing for the solution form was 40.34/kg of borobydride contained. SoHd sodium borobydride, a white powder packaged in polyethylene bags in metal containers, was priced at 48.39/kg. [Pg.259]

In 1955 it was discovered that mixtures of ammonium nitrate and fine coal dust have satisfactory blasting capabilities in large (9 inch) holes used in open-pit coal mines to remove the rock and soil covering the coal. Polyethylene bags containing this material deform to fit the hole and provide moderate water resistance. ANFO is used in open-pit iron and copper mines and for construction such as road building. The mixture is air blown into 2-inch holes or less m maiiv underground mines. [Pg.275]

The stirring motor is housed in a polyethylene bag to protect it from acid fumes. [Pg.42]

In the South Pacific, man-made debris was surveyed on 24 islands in the Thousand Island archipelago north of Java in 1985 (66). Polyethylene bags, footwear and polystyrene blocks comprised more than 90% of the 27,600 items. The main source of this debris is the dumping of rubbish and domestic and industrial waste directly into the sea at Jakarta. On New Zealand beaches, plastic litter was widely distributed and predominantly in the form of polyethylene and polypropylene beads. Near Auckland and Wellington concentrations exceeded 10,000 and 40,000 beads m of beach, and the unweathered appearance of the beads implied a nearby source (66). [Pg.233]

Sample soil or sediment is put into polyethylene bags or glass containers and sample water into bottles as mentioned above. [Pg.902]

A container essentially has three characteristic features which may be either separable or inseparable, depending on the container. These three features are the container itself, the label (usually and preferably attached to the container) and the closure. A stoppered jar with an attached adhesive label is an example of a container in which the three features are separable. A polyethylene bag with an opaque label area and a press-together closure is an example of a container in which the features are inseparable. [Pg.133]

You need to take samples of (a) water suspected of pollution by organic compounds, (b) an unknown white powder and (c) diesel fuel containing anti-theft marker dyes. In each case, decide which of the containers in the following list would be suitable. You can use the same container for more than one application. Containers (i) polyethylene bag with freezer-tie closure, (ii) can with screw top, (iii) glass bottle and (iv) polypropylene bottle. [Pg.133]

Although bromocriptine mesilate is sensitive to heat and light, it is stable for up to 3 years at ambient temperature (20) when stored in sealed polyethylene bags contained in twist-off amber glass bottles. In warm and tropical climate (30 °C/75 percent relative humidity) and under identical package conditions, it is stable for 1 year, however only for 3 months at 50 °C. [Pg.66]

One company which purchases 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine as the dihydrochloride salt in sealed fiber in drums rinses the empty drums with water, adds the rinse water to the product stream, then sprays the drums with a sodium hypochlorite bleach solution (converting the 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine to a quinone-type compound), and places them in polyethylene bags for disposal (London and Boiano 1986). [Pg.108]

Lithium aluminum hydride should be stored in polyethylene bags, not ground glass bottles. [Pg.37]
