Plasticizers sulfonamide

Sulfonamide groups can be introduced into phthalocyanines to make them soluble in alcohols and glycol ethers. Their main appHcations are transparent paints, flexo and gravure printing inks, wood stains, plastics, and ballpoint inks. This includes products Hke Solvent Blue 24 (Cl 74380),... 

Nylon. The high degree of crystallinity in nylon means that plasticization can occur only at very low levels. Plasticizers are used in nylon but are usually sulfonamide based since these are generally more compatible than phthalates. DEHP is 25 phr compatible other phthalates less so. Sulfonamides are compatible up to 50 phr. 

Plasticizers. Plastici2ers are used to increase the flexibiHty of nylon and improve impact strength. They are most commonly used in nylon-11 and nylon-12 for such appHcations as flexible fuel hoses for automobiles. Unextracted nylon-6 is also used with the caprolactam acting as the plastici2er. Other common plastici2ers are long-chain diols and sulfonamides. 

Amino Resins and Plastics. The commercially important amino resins are the urea-formaldehyde and the melamine-formaldehyde condensates. Of lesser importance are the sulfonamide, aniline and thiourea resins... 

With these many requirements, it is obvious that each group of polymers has its own plasticizers, although some types of plasticizers have been developed which are suitable for several plastics. They belong to the groups of esters, ketones, ethers, acetals, epoxides, and nitrogen containing compounds like the sulfonamides. 

The second type comprises pigment-containing nail enamels. The coloring tints, pigments, pearls, and lakes are suspended with the aid of an organophilic, thixotropic gellant, such as stearalkonium hectorite in a non-aqueous vehicle, containing butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, and isopropyl alcohol solvents in which the primary plasticized nitrocellulose and toluene sulfonamide—formaldehyde resin film formers are dissolved. Nail enamel is an excellent example of a permanent suspension in a non-aqueous vehicle. 

Incompatible with aluminum, anionic surfactants, citrates, cotton, fluorescein, hydrogen peroxide, hypromellose, iodides, kaolin, lanolin, nitrates, nonionic surfactants in high concentration, permanganates, protein, salicylates, silver salts, soaps, sulfonamides, tartrates, zinc oxide, zinc sulfate, some rubber mixes, and some plastic mixes. 

Physical effects caused by polyethylene glycol bases include softening and liquefaction in mixtures with phenol, tannic acid, and salicylic acid. Discoloration of sulfonamides and dithranol can also occur and sorbitol may be precipitated from mixtures. Plastics, such as polyethylene, phenolformaldehyde, polyvinyl chloride, and cellulose-ester membranes (in filters) may be softened or dissolved by polyethylene glycols. Migration of polyethylene glycol can occur from tablet film coatings, leading to interaction with core components. 

In October 2006 the Musselmonitor, equipped with 8 zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha), installed at the water company Water Maatschappij Limburg (WML) along the River Meuse at Beegden (NL) showed an alarm. Chemical analysis of the water sample that was collected indicated the presence of the plasticizer N-butyl benzene sulfonamide (N-BBSA) its source remained unknown. In February 2007, as a result of this incident, the water company included this compound in the set of routine... 

Benzene derivatives are used in the manufacture of plastic materials and synthetic rubber (buna). Pharmaceutical products include antipyrin, pyramidon, dulcin, saccharine, luninal, stovaine, coramine, paregoric and sulfonamides.

Among other plasticizers, o- and p-toluene-sulfonamides are used to improve the processibility of urea and melamine resins, and cellulose-based adhesives. For the same reason, N-ethyl-o-toluenesulfonamide and N-ethyl-p-toluenesulfonamide are used for polyamides, casein, and zein. 

Plasticizers maybe added to nylon to lower the melting point and to improve toughness and flexibility particularly at low temperatures. A plasticizer used commercially is a blend of o- and p-toluene ethyl sulfonamide.
