In order to minimise the duration of the lifetests, and hence reduce costs, it is desirable to use the highest practical stress temperature. The factors which determine the upper limit are still largely a matter of conjecture, but it seems desirable to restrict lifetests to below the glass transition temperature of the moulding compound, because at this point there is a marked increase in both the thermal expansion coefficient of the plastic and the mobility of polar groups within the plastic. For epoxies, the glass transition temperature is typically 150°C and for silicones it is 170°C. [Pg.183]

Shipment, Storage, and Price. Butynediol, 35% solution, is available in tank cars, tank trailers, and dmms. Stainless steel, nickel, aluminum, glass, and various plastic and epoxy or phenoHc liners have ak been found satisfactory. Rubber hose is suitable for transferring. The solution is nonflammable and freezes at about —5°C. [Pg.106]

Operating conditions are important determinants of the choice of filter media and sealant used in the cartridges. Some filter media, such as cellulose paper filters, are useful only at relatively low temperatures of 95 to 150"C (200 to 300°F). For high-temperature flue gas streams, more thermally stable filter media, such as nonwoven polyester, polypropylene, or Nomex, must be used. A variety of commercially available sealants such as polyurethane plastic and epoxy will allow fabric operating temperatures up tol50°C (300°F). Selected sealants such as heat cured Plasitcol will withstand operating temperatures up to 200°C (400°F). [Pg.415]

The liquid nitrile rubbers are generally used as nonvolatile and nonextractable plasticizers. They also function as binders and modifiers for epoxy resins. Their moderate heat resistance limits their ability to meet industrial requirements. Hence, attempts have been made to improve their thermal and oxidative resistance by saturating the polymer backbone. [Pg.566]

Water is a natural plasticizer for many polar polymers such as the nylons (23K). polyester resins (239), and cellulosic polymers (240). It strongly shifts in epoxies (241.242). Thus the creep and stress-relaxation behavior of such polymers can be strongly dependent on the relative humidity or the atmosphere. [Pg.114]

The flexibility and extensibility of a crosslinked epoxy network are determined by the available glassy-state free volume. If the free volume is insufficient to allow network segmental extensibility via rotational isomeric changes then the brittle mechanical response of the epoxy glass is not controlled by the network structure but rather by macroscopic defects such as microvoids. For epoxies with sufficient free volume that allows plastic network deformation the mechanical response is controlled by the network structure. [Pg.38]

In order to increase the collection efficiency or to conform to theoretical equations for kinetic collection efficiencies only valid for very thin gaps, plastic or epoxy insulation is not very useful since with these it... [Pg.391]

The methods used to increase the water resistance of a glass microsphere foam are basically those applied to glass-reinforced plastics, filled thermoplasts, and elastomers, viz. hydrophobic adhesion compounds are added to binder and microsphere dressing 147). The compounds added are alkyl alkoxysilane derivatives, amino or epoxy alkoxysilanes for epoxy and phenolic resins, vinyl or methacryloxy alkoxysilanes for polyester resins. The dressing agents used are aminoethoxysilanes (y-aminopropyl-... [Pg.98]
