Pilots and Igniters - Two gas-fired pilots with igniters are installed adjacent to the inlet distributor. The igniter assembly and pilot gas valves must be located remote from the flare for protection of personnel and equipment. This restricts igniter selection to the forced air supply type. Location of these components should be such that the calculated radiant heat density at maximum load does not exceed permissible levels for personnel exposure. Because of the potential hazard of release of unignited hydrocarbons at ground level, a flame scanner (suitably shielded and aircooled and cotmected to an alarm in the control house), is provided for each pilot.

Cycom A combustion process for treating solid industrial wastes. The solids are fed into the top of a vertical gas-fired cylinder. The ash melts and flows down the walls for recovery. Developed by IGT, Chicago, and piloted with several industrial wastes in the 1990s. 

In a detailed process optimization study, the impact of the type of micromixers and process parameters was determined [56]. Piloting with landmarks Although the Cheng experiment showed that animals can be almost completely dependent on the visual appearance of the geometric frame of an environment, other research indicates that animals also use isolated cues within an environment to guide their travel to particular locations. For example, rats placed within a cylindrical environment that provides no locations that are distinguished by the environmental frame still are able to locate rewarded and nonrewarded arms on a radial maze, if distinct visual cues are attached to the wall surrounding the maze (Suzuki et al., 1980).

Watercatox Not an established process, but a project of the Fifth Framework Program of the European Union. The purpose was to develop catalytic processes for destroying organic residues in water by wet air oxidation ( WAO).The chosen system used a tubular catalytic membrane reactor for contacting the aqueous solution with air. Several companies and research institutes participated in this project from 2000, and the process was piloted with several real industrial liquid effluents.

A6.5.11.2 Table A6.3 gives the estimated time needed for completion of individual modules based on preliminary piloting with two South African factories. Depending on the module and how skilled the administrators of the modules are, total testing time could vary from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Daily Flowsheets Mihtary pilots fly with a small chpboard attached to their knees. The design of incremental control algorithms can become complex when a human controller is controlling a computer, which is controlling the actual physical process, in a stressful and busy environment, such as a military aircraft. If one of the commands in an incremental control sequence cannot be executed within a specified period of time, the human operator needs to be informed about any delay or postponement or the entire sequence should be canceled and the operator informed. At the same time, interrupting the pilot with a lot of messages that may not be critical at a busy time could also be dangerous. Careful analysis is required to determine when multistep controller inputs can be preempted or interrupted before they are complete and when feedback should occur that this happened [90].

The accident data suggest that incidents are indicators of problems that can lead to an accident. The data show that compared to the incident data there are similar issues that surface in the accident data. The analysis of the accident data indicates that pilots with a higher average of flight hours have an issue in the area of diverted attention when utilizing GPS and pilots with the lowest average of flight hours have an issue with the hardware/software .
