Phosphorous applications

After considerable work, it was determined that the hosts which work best in this application are those in which vlbronic coupling is minimized. This was established by determining and comparing the phonon dispersion branches of the various compounds. It was found that those hosts which have low energy optical branches in the phonon spectrum function best for up-conversion phosphor applications. Note that this is akin to minimizing ground state perturbation at the activator site proper choice of host. The best hosts were found to be ... [Pg.596]

Hydrothermal synthesis has also heen used to prepare rare earth oxides, (Y2O3-Gd203) Eu and Y203 (Yh /Et ), which were used for phosphors applications... [Pg.141]

More recently, alternative chemistries have been employed to coat oxide surfaces with SAMs. These have included carboxylic 1129, 1301, hydroxamic 11311, phosphonic 1124, 1321 and phosphoric acids 11331. Potential applications of SAMs on oxide surfaces range from protective coatings and adhesive layers to biosensors. [Pg.2623]

Yttrium oxide is one of the most important compounds of yttrium and accounts for the largest use. It is widely used in making YVOr europium, and Y2O3 europium phosphors to give the red color in color television tubes. Many hundreds of thousands of pounds are now used in this application. [Pg.74]

Gadolinium yttrium garnets are used in microwave applications and gadolinium compounds are used as phosphors in color television sets. [Pg.188]

Sodium terbium borate is used in solid-state devices. The oxide has potential application as an activator for green phosphors used in color TV tubes. It can be used with Zr02 as a crystal stabilizer of fuel cells which operate at elevated temperature. Few other uses have been found. [Pg.189]

In peptide syntheses, where partial racemization of the chiral a-carbon centers is a serious problem, the application of 1-hydroxy-1 H-benzotriazole ( HBT") and DCC has been very successful in increasing yields and decreasing racemization (W. Kdnig, 1970 G.C. Windridge, 1971 H.R. Bosshard, 1973), l-(Acyloxy)-lif-benzotriazoles or l-acyl-17f-benzo-triazole 3-oxides are formed as reactive intermediates. If carboxylic or phosphoric esters are to be formed from the acids and alcohols using DCC, 4-(pyrrolidin-l -yl)pyridine ( PPY A. Hassner, 1978 K.M. Patel, 1979) and HBT are efficient catalysts even with tert-alkyl, choles-teryl, aryl, and other unreactive alcohols as well as with highly bulky or labile acids. [Pg.145]

Typical applications in the chemical field (Beaver, op. cit.) include detarring of manufactured gas, removal of acid mist and impurities in contact sulfuric acid plants, recovery of phosphoric acid mists, removal of dusts in gases from roasters, sintering machines, calciners, cement and lime Idlns, blast furnaces, carbon-black furnaces, regenerators on fluid-catalyst units, chemical-recoveiy furnaces in soda and sulfate pulp mills, and gypsum kettles. Figure 17-74 shows a vertical-flow steel-plate-type precipitator similar to a type used for catalyst-dust collection in certain fluid-catalyst plants. [Pg.1616]

Hot oleum (>50°C), strong alkalis, fluoride solutions, sulphur trioxide Strong alkalis, especially >54°C, distilled water >82°C, hydrofluoric acid, acid fluorides, hot concentrated phosphoric acid, lithium compounds >1 77°C, severe shock or impact applications Strong oxidizers, very strong solvents... [Pg.58]

In primer formulations for adhesive bonding of metals, the coupling agents that are most frequently used are those based on epoxy and amine functionalities. Aqueous solutions of aminosilanes have been successfully used for obtaining stable adhesive bonds between epoxy and steel [10] and epoxy and titanium [11,12], while epoxy functional silanes are preferable for applications involving aluminum substrates [13,14], A simple solution of % epoxy functional silane in water is currently used for field repairs of military aircraft [15] where phosphoric acid anodization would be extremely difficult to carry out, and performance is deemed quite acceptable. [Pg.437]

We have also looked at the lap shear strength of selected EB-ciirable epoxy adhesives. Because the adhesives being developed were being used for both aluminum-to-aluminum and composite-to-composite applications the lap shear strengths for both adherends was measured. Aluminum adherends were T2024 phosphoric acid anodized according to ASTM 3933. The composite adherends... [Pg.1018]

Evaporators have performed successfully in a number of industrial applications. Typical materials that are processed in evaporators include Caustic Soda, Caustic Potash, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Dichromate, Sodium Nitrate, Ammonium Nitrate, Phosphoric Acid Superacid, Potash, Urea, Glue, Glycerine,... [Pg.95]
