Gadolinium compound

Gadolinium yttrium garnets are used in microwave applications and gadolinium compounds are used as phosphors in color television sets. 

M NMR tomography is superior to X-rays for imaging the soft parts of the body. The injection of gadolinium compounds improves the visualization of important details.

The Pr ion can be used succesfully as a sensitizer in luminescent materials based on gadolinium compounds 112-115). However, this is only possible if the Afbd state of Pr " " decays radiatively. Otherwise the nonradiative return to the Af configuration occurs more rapidly than the Pr " " - Gd + transfer.
