Performance measurement indicators

A pilot study with EA 2233, using three performance measures, indicated minimal effects at the doses administered (Fig. 98). Two subjects were tested at each dose level. Only one volunteer, at 60mcg/kg, reported distinct cannabis-like effects. He described a pleasant state in which he was unconcerned with events in the environment and doubted that he would care if a fire broke out. 

Work sample testing is less abstract than other predictive techniques in that actual performance measurement indices (e.g., counts, errors) or ratings (including checklists) may be used as indices of performance. Where possible, work sample testing (or its close cousin, simulation) is the preferred method for use in selection research and practice because one does not get mired down trying to decide how to apply abstract mental constructs to the prediction of job performance.

Renewed interest in having valid performance measures indicates that safety professionals would benefit from additional symposia on the subject. 

The performance measure data requires analysis. The analysis techniques are tied to the performance measures and the performance goals. The format of the performance measures indicates the types of data analysis techniques that can or cannot be used (see Chapter 3). The performance goals are also tied to the analysis techniques. If the performance goal is the reduction of back injuries over a period of time, the analysis technique used should be capable of identifying such a decrease, if it does exist. (See Chapters 3 and 4 for a discussion of analysis techniques.)...

For supply inlets in rooms some performance measurements exist, such as air exchange and ventilation efficiencies (see Chapter 8). It is usually not possible to use these for local ventilation supply inlets, and for the moment there are no specific measurements to evaluate the influence of an inlet on contaminants. Some trials with comparison indices, which compare inhaled concentrations (or exposures) with and without a supply inlet, have been done. 

CCPS has developed guidelines for the measurement of PSM performance that provide useful ideas on measurement. Their approach for developing performance measures integrates Quality Management with a well-tested methodology for developing measures based on mathematical algorithms derived from expert assessment of system performance. The purpose was to identify well-defined, measurable, and practical indicators of performance that are updated on a schedule which makes the performance measure continuously useful. Methods for characterizing the elastic, plastic, and brittle properties of compacts of organic materials have been developed by Hiestand and coworkers [29-33]. These indices of tableting performance measure the mechanical properties of compacted materials. 

Repeated visual examination and impedence measurements indicated no degradation of the electrode over the course of the experiments (3 weeks). During this time, the selected electrodes were stored in the inert-atmosphere glove box in which the electrochemical experiments were performed. No electrode pretreatment procedures were used and the crystals were not recleaved. 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in supply chain balanced scorecards and performance management are one example for analysis methods. Beamon (1998) and Chan (2003) distinguish qualitative performance measures such as customer satisfaction, on-time delivery, fill rate or flexibility as well as quantitative measures based on costs in distribution, manufacturing and inventory or warehousing. 

One has to be careful with the use of the misclassification error as a performance measure. For example, assume a classification problem with two groups with prior probabilities pi = 0.9 and p2 = 0.1, where the available data also reflect the prior probabilities, i.e., nx k, npi and n2 np2. A stupid classification rule that assigns all the objects to the first (more frequent) group would have a misclassification error of about only 10%. Thus it can be more advisable to additionally report the misclassification rates per group, which in this case are 0% for the first group but 100% for the second group which clearly indicates that such a classifier is useless. 

The studies summarized above indicate that while nicotine has sexually dimorphic effects on cognitive processes, no generalizations can be made. The effects depend on the type of test and performance measures as well as on the route and regimen of nicotine administration. Eurthermore, the species, strain and age of animals, motivation, and mood would have substantial impact on the cognitive effects of nicotine. 

The NMRD profiles of V0(H20)5 at different temperatures are shown in Fig. 35 (58). As already seen in Section I.C.6, the first dispersion is ascribed to the contact relaxation, and is in accordance with an electron relaxation time of about 5 x 10 ° s, and the second to the dipolar relaxation, in accordance with a reorientational correlation time of about 5 x 10 s. A significant contribution for contact relaxation is actually expected because the unpaired electron occupies a orbital, which has the correct symmetry for directly overlapping the fully occupied water molecular orbitals of a type (87). The analysis was performed considering that the four water molecules in the equatorial plane are strongly coordinated, whereas the fifth axial water is weakly coordinated and exchanges much faster than the former. The fit indicates a distance of 2.6 A from the paramagnetic center for the protons in the equatorial plane, and of 2.9 A for those of the axial water, and a constant of contact interaction for the equatorial water molecules equal to 2.1 MHz. With increasing temperature, the measurements indicate that the electron relaxation time increases, whereas the reorientational time decreases.
