The links between levels of exposure and inconvenience caused by ventilation noise are described in an investigation carried out on office workers.- Technical measurements and analyses of the ventilation noise at 155 typical office workplaces were in this study combined with assessments by the office workers of the level of disturbance that they experienced, the effect on working performance, fatigue, stress-related pain, and headaches. The average noise level was about 40 dB(A) at two of the workplaces, while it was about 35 dB(A) at two others. It emerged from rhe narrow-band analyses that the sound pressure levels of rhe infrasound were not in any event of an order that this type of sound frequencies (below 20 Hz) could contribute to any disturbance effects. The results clearly indicated that the ventilation noise was perceived as most acceptable when the tone was situated in the low er part of the frequency range. The experience of disturbance and the associated effects occur at exposure levels above the auditory perception threshold. Above this level, the risk of these effects increases as the perceived loudness increases, provided that the other conditions remain constant. Many tests have been devised to provide quantitative measures of behavioral disturbances caused by neurotoxic chemicals. Tests have been devised that assess the effects of chemicals on four behavioral functions (D Mello 1992). These are sensory, cognitive, motor, and affective functions. Select azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, voriconazole, and posaconazole) and the echinocandins are available for IA treatment. For initial therapy of IA, voriconazole had higher response and survival rates than c-AMB.102 An advantage of voriconazole is its 96% oral bioavailability, making use of this oral drug an attractive and less expensive alternative. Common toxicities reported with voriconazole include infusion-related, transient visual disturbances (i.e., blurred vision, altered color perception, photophobia, and visual hallucinations), skin reactions (i.e., rash, pruritus, and photosensitivity), elevations in hepatic transaminases and alkaline phosphatase, nausea, and headache.102 In addition, voriconazole increases the serum concentrations of medications cleared by cytochrome P-450 2C9, 2C19, and 3A4 (e.g., cyclophosphamide and calcineurin inhibitors) concomitant voriconazole-sirolimus should be avoided.103... [Pg.1462]
