Patents disclosure

The use of alkaU metals for anionic polymerization of diene monomers is primarily of historical interest. A patent disclosure issued in 1911 (16) detailed the use of metallic sodium to polymerize isoprene and other dienes. Independentiy and simultaneously, the use of sodium metal to polymerize butadiene, isoprene, and 2,3-dimethyl-l,3-butadiene was described (17). Interest in alkaU metal-initiated polymerization of 1,3-dienes culminated in the discovery (18) at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. that polymerization of neat isoprene with lithium dispersion produced high i7j -l,4-polyisoprene, similar in stmcture and properties to Hevea natural mbber (see ELASTOLffiRS,SYNTHETic-POLYisoPRENE Rubber, natural). [Pg.236]

The bulk of the patent specification is the disclosure, the text and illustrations that describe the claimed invention in detail and explain how the claimed invention differs from the prior art. Modem patent disclosures contain a summary of the claimed invention, a description of the background of the invention, a general description of the way in which the invention is made and used, specific examples, and, where appHcable, drawings of the invention in general or specific embodiments. The technical information provided in a patent specification may be used without infringing the patent only practicing the invention defined in the claims within the term and territory of the patent grant is forbidden. Because much of the information in patent specifications is never pubHshed in refereed journals or other nonpatent media, patent disclosures are an invaluable part of the technical Hterature. [Pg.45]

The Patent Activity Data Base was developed to provide better tracking and follow-up of this critical activity. The course of a patent disclosure from the time it is first disclosed until a patent is issued or it is abandoned can be a complicated process stretched over a time period of several years. Monitoring the status of the patent disclosures of a large research organization over this period of time is a formidable task. The Patent Disclosure Tracking Data Base was developed to centralize the stored information on patent disclosures in a searchable and retrievable form. This data base consists of two data files illustrated in Table I. The first is the... [Pg.19]

Recent patent disclosures reveal efforts to optimize within this template. The amide moiety has been cyclized to give dihydroisoquinolone inhibitors such as 9 and 10 [57]. Using various mono- and bicyclic core structure scaffolds, the amide has also been constrained in isoquinolone,... [Pg.180]

The formation of relatively ill-defined catalysts for epoxide/C02 copolymerization catalysts, arising from the treatment of ZnO with acid anhydrides or monoesters of dicarboxylic acids, has been described in a patent disclosure.968 Employing the perfluoroalkyl ester acid (342) renders the catalyst soluble in supercritical C02.969 At 110°C and 2,000 psi this catalyst mixture performs similarly to the zinc bisphenolates, producing a 96 4 ratio of polycarbonate polyether linkages, with a turnover of 440 g polymer/g [Zn] and a broad polydispersity (Mw/Mn>4). Related aluminum complexes have also been studied and (343) was found to be particularly active. However, selectivity is poor, with a ratio of 1 3.6 polycarbonate polyether.970... [Pg.56]

The early patent disclosures have claimed the application of a wide spectrum of gas-evolving ingredients and phosphorus-based organic molecules as flame retarding additives in the electrolytes. Pyrocarbonates and phosphate esters were typical examples of such compounds. The former have a strong tendency to release CO2, which hopefully could serve as both flame suppressant and SEI formation additive, while the latter represent the major candidates that have been well-known to the polymer material and fireproofing industries. The electrochemical properties of these flame retardants in lithium ion environments were not described in these disclosures, but a close correlation was established between the low flammability and low reactivity toward metallic lithium electrodes for some of these compounds. Further research published later confirmed that any reduction of flammability almost always leads to an improvement in thermal stability on a graphitic anode or metal oxide cathode. [Pg.162]

Following these patent disclosures, research organizations involved in air-craft/aerospace material developments recognized the potential of thermosetting imide oligomers as resins for high temperature composites and adhesives. [Pg.169]

Peroxide and hydroperoxide ions. A patent disclosure h Barueoh and Payne101 has described addition of teri-bntylliydi- peroxide to ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, and isobutylene oxide in ether, in the presence of either basic or acidic catalysts. The <°rt-Imtylperoxide ion, like other nucleophiles, apparently prefers to uttar. c... [Pg.221]

The design of reactors, preparation of catalysts, control of tempera-tim and other topics of practical importance are summarized by Pokrovskii in excellent reviews1 84.1885 which encompass the literature up to 13o5. Reference should be made to these sources for numerous patent disclosures that will not be considered in the present disoussicn Among the significant problems examined by Pokrovskii from the standpoint of industrial technology are relative merits of fixed and fluidized catalyst beds, optimum composition of the reaction mixture in terms of both yield and safety, and properties of catalysts—selectivity, activity, durability, etc,—that arc vita] to the success of the enterprise. [Pg.363]

In 1986 one of us (D.R.H.) began to consider that our camel hump carrier might possibly be due to the elusive buckminsterfullerene, and in 1987 a patent disclosure was submitted to appropriate channels of the University of Arizona. When we both met at an IAU Symposium in Santa Clara, California in summer of 1988, we discussed the case for C6 again. If the camel hump carrier is not junk what else could it be other than C60 Apart from a vague similarity between the camel hump features and the calculated uv spectrum of C6 (Larsson et al. 1987), however, the evidence was rather circumstantial. The few measured spectral data available on C6 did not support this idea (see Heath et al. 1986). [Pg.35]

Pilot plant production of PVC resins began in Germany in 1931 followed by the USA in 1933. The beginning of PVC as a technically useful product stemmed from the patent disclosures of Semon of the BF Goodrich Company and Reid of Carbide and Carbon Chemicals in 1933/34. It was discovered that PVC became a flexible material that resembled rubber or leather when it was heated in the presence of a high boiling liquid. This led to the use of phthalate esters as plasticisers for PVC giving a material that was processable at acceptable melt temperatures into products which were permanently soft and flexible. [Pg.3]
