Neural networks have been applied to IR spectrum interpreting systems in many variations and applications. Anand [108] introduced a neural network approach to analyze the presence of amino acids in protein molecules with a reliability of nearly 90%. Robb and Munk [109] used a linear neural network model for interpreting IR spectra for routine analysis purposes, with a similar performance. Ehrentreich et al. [110] used a counterpropagation network based on a strategy of Novic and Zupan [111] to model the correlation of structures and IR spectra. Penchev and co-workers [112] compared three types of spectral features derived from IR peak tables for their ability to be used in automatic classification of IR spectra. [Pg.536]

Electrohvdraiilic actuators have similar performance characteristics and cost/rnaintenance ramifications. The main difference is that they contain their own electric-powdered hvdraiilic pump. The pump rnav rim continuously or be switched on when a change in position is required. Their main application is remote sites without an air supply when a failsafe spring return is needed. [Pg.781]

Figure 3-10 shows a similar performance map for an axial-flow compressor. Note the smaller operational flow range for the axial-flow compressor as compared to the centrifugal compressor. Figure 3-11 shows a typical compressor map presented from a slightly different viewpoint. On this map. [Pg.131]

Chlorinated rubber is soluble in aromatic solvents, and paints made from it dry by solvent evaporation alone. In contrast to the vinyls, there is less difficulty in formulating systems that are suitable for brush application. It has excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals and to water, but as it is extremely brittle it needs to be plasticised. To preserve chemical resistance it is necessary to use inert plasticisers such as chlorinated paraffin wax. Due to the presence of ozone depleting solvents, chlorinated rubber coatings are being phased out and largely replaced by vinyl acrylic coatings which have very similar performance and can be formulated from lower aromatic or aliphatic solvents. [Pg.585]

Not all product components are subjected to a load in fact most are not subjected to loads requiring an engineering analysis via engineering equations, etc. Experience in the material behavior on similar products and/or similar performance requirements are all that is needed. In these products designers become involved in their processing features that will prevent or reduce internal stresses, with elements that will lead to consistent and economical production, with appearance and dimensional control, etc. [Pg.20]

V with air were attained. The group at the University of Newcastle also reported similar performances using electrodes with a Pt loading of about 2 mg/cml ... [Pg.104]

OS 30] ]R 30] [P 22] The synthesis of nine C-C bonded products was made from four carbamates and five silyl enol ethers [66, 67]. Conversions ranged from 49 to 69% the corresponding selectivities ranged from 67 to 100%. Similar performance was achieved when serially processing the same reactions (see Serial combinatorial synthesis). [Pg.445]

This chapter is closely related to the subject of gelling agents (refer to Chapter 8, p. 108, for more information). The action of both gelling and plugging agents have a similar performance to minimize the permeability of a formation. [Pg.276]

A rare type of storage is the direct contact storage (Figure 150). Direct contact storages have similar performance than heat exchanger type storages however... [Pg.302]

The C-5 sugar alcohols produced from the hydrolysis of hemicellulose are both xylitol and arabitol [6], Equivalence testing was performed with Ni/Re catalyst in the batch reactor to verily similar performance between xylitol and arabitol feedstocks. The operating conditions were 200°C and 8300kPa H2 using the procedure outlined in section Catalyst Screening section. [Pg.167]

In this example, there are two reactors in which reactions 1, 2 and 3 can be performed. Equal mean reaction times for the different reactions in each of the reactors imply similar performances for the reactors. The overall process consists of four units, i.e. heater, reactor 1, reactor 2 and separator. In order to handle the usage of feed C in two distinct reactions, i.e. reactions 1 and 3, different states were assigned to each of the streams of feed C, i.e. states, v3 and s4, respectively. In this example, scheduling is performed over an 8-h time horizon. It should be noted that reactors 1 and 2 are suitable for performing reactions 1, 2 and 3, which implies that constraint (2.13) is crucial. Constraints that exhibit similar structure to those presented in example 1 are not repeated. [Pg.29]

Using an industrial oxidation reaction and carbon dioxide absorption in aqueous alkaline solutions, it was validated in some sets of process conditions that such pilot reactors show similar performance as their... [Pg.226]

A hydrogen-based economy could be the ideal scenario for personal transportation. The ultimate goal is a fuel cell car that is competitive in price and performance with the internal combustion vehicle. Some early users will pay a premium for new technology, but most drivers will not pay 20-30% more for similar performance. [Pg.269]

PCR is an alternative method to the much more used regression method PLS (Section 4.7). PCR is a strictly defined method and the model often gives a very similar performance as a PLS model. Usually PCR needs more components than PLS because no information ofy is used for the computation of the PCA scores this is not necessarily a disadvantage because more variance of X is considered and the model may gain stability. [Pg.163]
